IRVING, Texas – If the football world was losing its mind about the Cowboys’ No. 16 pick on Thursday night, Zack Martin certainly didn’t know about it.

As Cowboys executives frantically considered their options and fans at Radio City Music Hall chanted for Johnny Manziel, the team’s eventual first round pick was watching from his home in Indianapolis, Indiana – a world away from the draft day chaos.

Of course they explored the possibility of trading out. Wouldn't you? When either no takers were there, or the deal wasn't beneficial for us, then the Martin pick was a no brainer. I'm proud of them for not panicking and doing something stupid.

Of course they do, even if it was a safe pick in their minds, they'd never say it.

Is that why they tried to trade out?

I'm confused. Do you think the reason practically every team uses the entire 10 minutes is because they're heating up some pizza rolls or something?

I can guarantee that the only teams that didn't entertain trading out of their position last night were the teams who had just traded INTO that position.

You always try to maximize value. Thy overestimated Manziel's trade value is all (probably thought they could fleece someone) but not the value of Martin.

Martin would have gone the very next pick to Baltimore, or at the latest to Miami.

The question was not how much they like Zack Martin, but if the thought they could get two or three players instead after a trade down. But nobody loved Manziel enough to give up the farm.
