The 1980 San Diego Chargers produced first 1,000-yard trio, consisting of John Jefferson, and Hall of Famers Kellen Winslow and Charlie Joiner. Their 3,762 combined yards are the highest total of any 1,000-yard trio. During this season, quarterback Dan Fouts passed for a then-record 4,715 yards under the Air Coryell system instituted by head coach Don Coryell.

The 1989 Washington Commanders produced the second 1,000-yard trio, consisting of wide receivers Art Monk, Gary Clark, and Ricky Sanders. Nicknamed "The Posse", this trio is the only trio who did not have a 4,000-yard quarterback, with two quarterbacks, Mark Rypien (3,768 yards) and Doug Williams (585 yards), needed to break the 4,000 yards passing mark (though Rypien only played 14 games of a 16-game season).

The 1995 Atlanta Falcons produced the third 1,000-yard trio, consisting of running back/wide receiver/return specialist Eric Metcalf and wide receivers Terance Mathis and Bert Emanuel. Metcalf's 104 receptions are the most by any member of a 1,000-yard trio. Quarterback Jeff George passed for 4,143 yards, the only time he passed for over 4,000 yards in his career.

The 2004 Indianapolis Colts produced the fourth 1,000-yard trio, consisting of wide receivers Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne, and Brandon Stokley. During this season, quarterback Peyton Manning passed for 4,557 yards and broke the season passing touchdown record of 48 touchdowns, held by Dan Marino, with 49 (which would be broken during the 2007 NFL season by Tom Brady, with 50, but then reclaimed by Manning in the 2014 NFL season). Harrison's 15 touchdowns are the most of any single receiver and the trio's 37 combined touchdowns are the most of a 1,000-yard trio.

The 2008 Arizona Cardinals produced the fifth and most recent 1,000 yard trio, consisting of wide receivers Larry Fitzgerald, Anquan Boldin, and Steve Breaston. Quarterback Kurt Warner's 4,583 yards were second only to Drew Brees's 5,069 passing yards (which fell 15 yards short of Dan Marino's then-record 5,084 yards). The Cardinals posted a 9-7 record, and advanced to Super Bowl XLIII, losing 27-23 to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Fitzgerald's 1,431 yards are the most of any member of a 1,000-yard trio. Their 262 combined receptions are the most of any 1,000-yard trio.

Golden, thanks for the ground work...and this fan is eagerly anticipating similar results. Dak Prescott will have earned his large cap hit at that point.

So....let me get this straight....

When it comes to the other outside WR position....we're switching to CeeDee?

.........I can't help feeling like this is a move backwards........

Isn't Gallup kind if being disrespected?

I mean, he was a thousand yard receiver last season and Michael Irvin forgot his name last night.... Called him "Williams". Jones immediately began talking about Lamb taking over the other outside WR position opposite Cooper.

Gallup is third in franchise history in reception total for a player in his first two seasons. Only Bob Hayes and Dez Bryant had more.

Over the last two combined seasons, Gallup is 8th in average yards per reception.

I hope all three will be utilized to the point that it will be extremely difficult for a defense to cover all three.

Given Coopers injury history this pick is BPA and insurance along with acquiring elite talent. Excellent value that will give us some options once Coops contract has run its course. We can keep Gallup and Lamb if Coop walks.

Troy Aikman had all kinds of talent around him like Emmitt Smith, Michael Irvin, Jay Novacek, Rocket Ismail, Alvin Harper, etc.
Regardless what round they were drafted in, they had an abundance of talent.
Having a talented team is something to be coveted, not used as a slam against your QB.
Good point cause nothing has changes since the early 90s. Except for that little old thing called a salary cap.

Put Gallup and Lamb on the outside and line up Amari Cooper in the slot in three wide sets. This is a huge upgrade for the Cowboys.
Well, it could have been worse. They could switched to cassette.....yuk, yuk.....

I think you are misunderstanding my position. I'm not questioning the guy's talent, let me make that clear. My questioning was about comprehending the strategy of how are we going to maximize his value to the team when we have two stud receivers and a set of RBs that are pretty good at catching the football from the backfield. I doubt Dak is going to force the football to a rookie when his 1,2,3 options are on the field. The return on #17 needed to be a starter and I don't mean a rotational guy which the role of a #3 receiver normally is.
Well lamb was a pick jones boys were probably high on but didnt think they could get .
So now that they did, they have already gave him # 88 , which means he will start, and he will get a lot of targets.
Jerry will want to see his new toy get used a lot I guarantee that.

I mean sure we needed help on defense, but drafting for need over talent is never a good idea (see LV Raiders pick 19). Chaisson also would have been a good pick. Leading up to the draft he was one of the guys I was hoping we could land, but I just think a truly elite WR is more impactful than a DE who has a ton of tools and raw talent, but isn't an elite prospect, and has a decent chance of being a bust.

I'm pumped about what this offense will look like next year. Hopefully we can land an impact player or two today of the defensive side of the ball. Go Cowboys!

I hate when they do that. If you go ask the Eagles fans they are pissed Carson's youth is being wasted because they aren't surrounding him with talent. You want your quarterback to have talent. You think Mahomes is apologizing for having Sammy Watkins, Tyreke Hill and Travis Kelce?

Not at all.

Cowboys' Michael Gallup: More competition for targets
Rotowire Apr 24, 2020
Gallup will face competition for the No. 2 wide receiver spot in Dallas after the team selected CeeDee Lamb with the 17th overall pick in the draft.

Heading into his third NFL season, Gallup's spot seemed secure behind Amari Cooper, but the duo is now joined by a player who many experts tabbed as the most talented overall receiver in the entire 2020 draft class. On the bright side, there are plenty of looks up for grabs in the Cowboys' offense after slot receiver Randall Cobb and tight end Jason Witten (166 combined targets last year) both left in free agency, so even if Lamb makes a splash right away, Gallup's floor should be safe. Given the new competition, however, it could be tough for him to significantly improve on the 8.1 targets a game he saw in 2019.

Cowboys' Amari Cooper: Set for more slot routes
Rotowire Apr 24, 2020
Cooper is likely to line up in the slot more frequently after the Cowboys selected CeeDee Lamb with the 17th overall pick in the 2020 draft, NFL analyst Andy Benoit suggests.

The addition of Lamb to a receiving corps that already featured standout talents in Cooper and Michael Gallup gives offensive coordinator Kellen Moore a lot of formation flexibility, as both Cooper and Lamb have experience working inside and outside. During his NFL career, however, Cooper has been much more effective in the slot. Per Scott Barrett of Fantasy Points, the former Raider has averaged 2.37 yards per route run from the slot -- the fifth-best mark in the league since he was drafted in 2015 -- compared to a 1.80 YPRR as an outside receiver. With Dallas having lost slot receiver Randall Cobb and tight end Jason Witten (166 combined targets) in the offseason, there should be plenty of looks available for everyone, but even if Cooper's target volume somehow decreases as part of a deeper group of receivers, improved efficiency would keep his overall production afloat. In the best case scenario, of course, the Cowboys' No. 1 wideout would both see more passes thrown his way, and be able to do more damage with them.

So this essentially means Michael Gallup is not a Cowboy after next season.
