Many teams with new Head Coaches have made it to the Super Bowl in year 2 but rarely in year 1.

The new staff has to be with the players for 1 training camp to get a feel for how they fit or don't fit.

2020: Keep Cooper & Dak. Sign a few stop gap free agents. Draft BPA.

2021: Sign a significant free agent or more if needed to resolve whatever turns out to be the weak link (The weak link is rarely what fans think it will be before the season). Trade a future draft pick if needed to move up and match need to BPA.

This is what I suspect is the plan. Hoping dallas can be a contender by 2021 or 2022

I don't at all see how this defense is going to be good enough this year, even if they have a great draft.

At some point they are going to need to spend the money on an impact defender, maybe next year once Frederick's second contract salary/dead money are no longer on the books.

It’s probably smart to let the new staff come in and use this as a year to see what they have. Then they can adjust the system and roster the year after based on a deeper understanding of just what we have to work with here.

Pretty much the only way it can reasonably go down. The D is not a finished product and there are too many moving parts in general. See who sticks and who goes after MM gets settled in.

The only players signed through/past 2021 are the ones with huge contracts and of course any players that will still be on their rookie deals. I think they should take that remaining $20 million and go for it all this year because they are going to have a problem fielding a competitive team after 2021 unless the cap explodes. Even if that happens, it just pushes salaries higher so it may not even help that much.

The window isn’t open very long. We should be expecting to compete for Superbowls from here on out. Good coaches with loaded rosters can win games in their first year. It’s just that most new coaches don’t inherit good rosters.

Great points all around!

That's true but not many new HC inherit a team with a top 3 offense. If our ST was even average last year we win 10 games and might not have a new coach.

I really think fixing the ST and the defensive scheme issues that you highlighted in your weekly breakdowns will have a huge impact. Then adding McCoy and Poe will be a huge help also.

true I doubt they brought in Vets like Poe and McCoy to not try and go for it this season..i realize what the OP is saying but the Sb is the goal every year and we have the draft and the rest of the cap and FA to do all we can to win NOW..

The best thing I like about this new coach. He understands how important a true defensive tackle is. I totally believe that’s where it all starts on defense

could this be MM becoming Jon Gruden 2002 SB winner in his first year after inheriting Dungys great defenses but came in and tweaked the offense and boom Lombardy Trophy..

in this case we have the offense and need ST and Defense tweaked as is being done..

so it can happen..

Even more along your lines of thinking which I agree with 100%..

we have wait until Dak either gets a second Exclusive tag..

or not..

and then recover Beard's $11 mil cap hit in 2021 to do anymore rebuilding.

As well as others like Crawford, etc.

The staff has to have a shakedown cruise as you said and some tweaks maybe, yes.

So I am just going to sit back and watch and see how the players handle it all..

Then..
.

I totally believe we were a head coach. And two or three players away from a championship. Nose tackle tight end safety

To do this..

the players have to really buy in like never before.

And unfortunately, this team has a nasty habit of teasing then shrinking from greatness.

This is mental more than physical.

In the end, they decide next year and not this year.

This year its too difficult.

We used to be called back in the late 60s and early 70s..

"Tomorrow's Champions"

Becuz we choked so much.

We are sort of close to that now.

Just ask Stephen A Smith.

its the opposite new coaches and like 20 new players and we arent going to be picked for the SB this year so we are typically every other year breaking expectation?

its our year to bounce back..

I do not thinks it was random dumb luck..

that our best teams had Bob Lilly and Randy White and Russell Maryland as our tackles..

Hmmm...

Ok..

From your mouth to Landrys ear..

err..

Gods ear.

I like what they've done on the defensive front, but unless they hit big in the secondary this yr I'm not sold on being more than a playoff contender. Nothing wrong with that. No big secret this defense was a season or 2 away from what is needed for sustained success. The changes are a much needed breath of fresh air and bring new hope

i'm not sure we have the " it" and needed ingredients and most of the management strategics to seriously put us as SB contenders.

yeh we'll make the playoffs, trend says we will be NFC East title over the Eagles.
But what do we have now or added.. at player personnel that will elevate us over the top ?
McCoy ? Poe ? ha ha Clinton Dix ?

but i'll await the NFL draft and see if Jones/McClay have another card trick up their sleeves with another Robert Quinn like trade.
i expect more fillers and special teams guys before and post draft for now.
