I know this guy is going to demand a lot if money in FA but he is exactly the type of safety Marinelli needs. If I were Jerry I would go all in for this guy.

Demand a lot of money - go all in for this guy. With what money?

No way, would rather spend that type of money on a DE in free agency but even that is probably not going to happen on that level.

He's a great player but he'll understandably be asking for a lot of money.

I wouldn't sign McCourty and I am weary of giving him any deal.

McCourty is a failed corner who made the switch to FS and has had some success. But this is behind Revis (arguably a top 2 corner) and Browner.

I honestly hope the eagles break the bank for him.

Mccourty isn't even a top 5 FS. I bet he gets paid like he's the best FS though. Teams have cap space to burn and he plays a talent devoid position. I wouldn't mind kicking the tires on him if he's paid what he's worth, but I bet he's paid mich higher than that.

Dont see the hype on this guy. He had the same stats as wilcox last year. Not an upgrade. We need a cover safety.

The Cowboys are reportedly interested in Stephen Paea, CJ Spiller and several others as well. If McCourty commands as much money as I suspect he will, those other FA candidates might well be left to deal with another team. Perhaps we'd be wise to consider someone that's a capable free-agent CB instead of a FA safety. Wilcox may be destined to get a chance to develop further before Dallas decides to replace either him or Church with a cover-capable FS type.

Definitely agree here! DL is definitely top priority but the Safety talent in the league is so weak (and we have been as there as well) that it would definitely be justified. I would much prefer an impact player like McCourty over 2 average DL with minimal pass rush potential.

Most of the recent draft classes (this one included) is also weak there (S) and it just seems like a golden opportunity to finally solidify the position that has long been overlooked on this team; even was as far back as when the DL was solid (Ware,Rat, Spencer in their primes) but the secondary still gave up big plays down field (07). Really what it comes down to is that if Hardy is not available and other impact pass rushers are off the table, he would be a great FS signing to invest in instead of 2 average role players on the DL.

EDIT: was wrong about the big plays I perceived given up in 07 w/Ellis/Ware and 46 sacks for the D, the team did well in passes over 20 yards category. I think the 2nd half of the playoff game swayed my memory a bit. Look for the rushers unless McCourty doesn't fetch what he wants and is willing to do a high salary 1 year type of prove it deal like Melton (not likely unf.)
