I know the needs on offensive line are apparent. But this draft is just too loaded on defense (especially Defensive Line) to pass up.

Here is a wish list (in my opinion would put Rob Ryan defense over the top)

1. ROBERT QUINN
2. VON MILLER
3. PATRICK PETERSON
4. DA’QUAN BOWERS (very unlikely will slip this far)

Any of these guys could potentially slip depending on if a team reaches for Cam Newton early.

* Take Best available player at #9 pick then get OL at #40.

Agree we should go defense...but if Peterson falls all the way to 9 there is absolutely no way we can pass that up.

We pretty much have to if we want an impact player. Or we trade down and add two of the best OL in the draft. Don't want to do that, though if there's a real defensive talent on the board at 9.

I won't grouse at all if we take Tyron Smith, A. J. Green, or Julio Jones there.

But Peterson is the guy I think we should target and if not him then DL not OLB.

hos, if peterson is gone like we feel he would be, and tyron is available, as well as a solid DL we need, and prince (last name here) so many mocks have us drafting - what would you do?

if we wait until round 2 for OL - who are likely candidates and is OL still a hot commodity this year?

I would take Smith. I think his upside is fantastic. I would not be upset at all if we traded down and got more picks. We don't need a lot to put this team at an elite status.

No to Quinn...too small for DE...I'd only take him as an OLB IF all other coveted players were gone and no trade partners.

No to Von Miller...he's not nearly big enough to play OLB in the 3-4...most experts think he'll struggle to set the edge vs. the run.

Yes to Peterson...best CB, although I'd love the Miami kid lower in the draft.
Yes to Bowers...he could play 3-4 DE in my opinion.
Yes to Dareus or Fairley.

so you're not sold at prince at that point?

how far down could we drop and still get smith? guessing game i know but who behind us would want an OL like him?

Don't get too infatuated with the "top" defensive or offensive "talent".

The only guy on our radar who is truely bullet proof is Peterson. The guy is awesome and fills what I see as our one true defensive must have and that's FS.

Out side of that, there's really no ideal defensive fit.

The top of the draft is not just about BPA, it's BPA that fills a need you have. The 9th pick of the draft is too great a resource and any player selected will be paid too much money to justify not filling a void.

Either way, I still go back to OL.

We need playersssssss for the OL.
Starting caliber RT, interior guy and another quality player who could back up at LT.

This draft should be about getting 3 blue chip offensive lineman by pick 40.

I'll tell you what surprises me.

It's that everyone on this board isn't viewing OL as our only logical course in this comming draft.

I have yet to read one poster who agrees with either of these statements:
1) Our OL is a good unit. Or at least good enough.
2) The Cowboys have invested enough draft picks/resources in the OL in recent years.

All we need to do is trade down to a spot we feel good about selecting Smith.
Perhaps down to the 15 to 17 range and pick up perhaps the 47th selction in RD 2.

If we over shoot and Smith goes off the board at 13-14, so be it. We trade down again and go for Carmini. Or take him at 17 if we think he's worth it.

I think Prince would do just fine. The only thing I think we could do that would be wrong is take a QB, TE, or Kicker.

Myself, I think all but Dareus will be gone before the Dallas pick. I'm hoping for him. To fill where Spears is missing at present.

Nine defensive linemen with a first round grade...so Dallas needs where this draft's strength lies. Then take up Hos's offensive linemen.

Ah, Hos, and I was avoiding all kicker topics...:)

Prince scares me - he looks small on film and his lack of int is concern...but he blew up the stop watches...so somebody will take him earlier than they should...I just hope that team isn't Dallas.

Robert Quinn is my pet cat... :D

We have him as DROY for 2011. He is off the charts on video.

I agree on going after DL and not OLB. If the team wants to win now, they will go that way if they go defense, too. Spencer is a good football player and one your best players on defense.

I think Dareus would have a great impact on the defensive front, but Peterson is probably the best, cleanest player in the draft. Peterson adds to a strength personnel wise on defense. I think Dareus adds to a weakness, the front.

Jerry will probably be on that phone to trade up for Peterson. I think Cleveland, if he falls that far, is your best shot. That is where Mike Holmgren lives. The Titans like Jake Locker, and they are looking at QBs in rounds 1, 2, and 3. You can't rely of the Titans not to take Dareus, Fairley, or Peterson. Their GM loves SEC players. If they don't like the QB at 9, or think the other players are just too good to pass up vs that QB at 9, they will not hesitate to take a Dareus or Fairley, or CB like Peterson.

I would look at these guys in the top 10:

Peterson
Dareus
Fairley
Smith

I'm starting to warm up to trading down if all three of those defensive players are off the board. I'm not feeling Prince Amukamara, J.J. Watt, or Cameron Jordan. I'd rather have the OT. If you could trade down and still nab Tyron Smith, that would be really good. Plus, you get the extra pick or picks. I'm good with taking Smith at 9, too.

I don't see how Holmgren will pass on Jones or Green, but I could be wrong. I know he likes offensive skill players in round 1.

Lombardi did a mock, and Dareus fell to Dallas. The Titans took Fairley.

I'm with you on the OL. Like you didn't know. :)

Mike Lombardi just stated on NFL Network that the offensive line was the number 1 area that Dallas needed to improve on to get back to the playoffs. He alluded to Dallas' struggles to run the football last year and pointed direct blame on the offensive line. He didn't say one word about the running backs.

He mentioned that Dallas has four offensive linemen over 30, and that Dallas needs to find the replacements for Colombo, Davis, and Gurode. He stated that the line needs to be in better shape and needs to play much better. He forgot to mention that Kosier is a free agent who will turn 33 next fall.

Lombardi also mentioned how Jason Garrett's mentality would help the team's mental and physical preparation, and talked about Dallas' traveling and poor mentality of a training camp last year (traveling and not wanting to get hurt).

Yesterday, Lombardi stated that # 9's value would be on the DL, but Lombardi mocked us Tyron Smith during combine week. Also, he stated tonight that their may be a player taken in the top 10 that isn't being talked about now. That very well could be Smith.

I wonder about Jake Locker going to Tennessee or Washington.

One of their other analyst pointed at Jenkins, Spencer, and Ratliff for not playing up to their talent (especially Jenkins and Spencer).
