I don’t know much about him but obviously not “purely a financial decision” in August.

He was likely on par or being outperformed by younger guys so couple that with his salary, the team decided to move on.

The fact that he is in training camp ahows the team budgeted for him to be on the roster.

The only problem is that you'll have to guarantee him that you are not trading for Earl, or else he wont sign here. Otherwise, I think this is a no brainer. Sign him to a 1 year deal and sign Earl next year in free agency, and keep your draft picks.
