Name to remember Michael Ricks, a DB from Stillman College. Grades kept him out of Alabama. Cowboys express some interest.

He is a interesting prospect. Legit D1 talent and athletic ability with borderline D2 smarts.

Word on the street is teams are concerned about his ability to pick up a NFL scheme.

yeah, i knew it was sammie something but couldnt remember last name, i really wanted him in the draft

here is some more info on the db but you probably already know that sdogo, im thinking cowboys are looking at him as an undrafted player whenever they can;

Two years away from the game.

Finally came a career resurrection just down the road from his original destination. His career at Division II Stillman College in Tuscaloosa now complete, Ricks is back where it all started — training for the career that hardly seemed possible.

But in this out-of-the-way gym far from the draft assembly lines, the former R.A. Hubbard star is putting the finishing touches on his football rebirth. He’s been in contact with a handful of NFL franchises telling him he could go anywhere from the fourth round on up. The draft starts Thursday and runs through Saturday and Ricks is feeling good about his chances.

“I just played my best,” Ricks said. “I just gave it my all. That’s the best (tackle total) I’ve had here.” In the second quarter, Ricks intercepted a pass and scored on a 5-yard return to help Stillman take a 13-7 lead. Ricks said he told one of his fellow defensive backs to cover the outside receiver.

.....
During the build up to the NFL Draft, the focus is often on the first round prospects when in reality it is the late round gems which often make or break a team's draft. Anytime a team can unearth a prospect out of the depths of the draft it generates a spark felt across the roster as gives the roster an unexpected boost, improves depth and helps manage the salary cap (assuming there is still one). NFLDraft101 recently had the opportunity to speak with Stillman CB/S Michael Ricks who hopes to become one of the 2011 NFL Draft's late round gems.

Ricks was originally signed by Alabama out of high school but after failing to qualify academically went to Northeast Mississippi junior college before transferring to Stillman. He is an explosive athlete who has played primarily strong safety for the past two seasons. He had 108 tackles and 7 interceptions during his two year Stillman career. As a junior he flashed his playmaking ability by ranking third on the team in touchdowns with four despite playing on the defensive side of the ball (2 interception returns and 2 fumble returns). He also starred on the Stillman track team running a personal best 11.07 in the 100 meters.

1.63 10 yard dash is pretty slow for a CB. Not a quick twitch guy...he must be getting safety looks.
