He was signed right on time for no-tax weekend. Tired of the Cowboys shopping at Walmart or Kmart for their Dlinemen. We need to get some of those Niemans linemen eventually.

At least the team is giving several prospects a try. I'd prefer to see something being done than sitting idly by and doing nothing. It's difficult to detect exactly what level of talent a d-lineman has until you see what he can do close up. He's seems strong and reasonably quick with a decent spin move upon occasion. Evidently, the Cowboys' staff sees something in him that strikes them as good enough for a looksee. We'll soon see too.

I never understand fans criticizing these pickups. Very few make the final roster but that is not the point. It is about giving guys who you had a draftable grade on from their draft class, giving a guy a chance who intrigued you while watching film on other teams, giving a guy a chance on a recommendation of someone you trust, etc.

I would think of all these guys you bring in as camp invites or camp bodies, you are doing very good if you hit on one a year. Although if you do not try to find talent any way possible, you are doing yourselves a disservice.

Better get used to it! Stephen and McClay only prefer to shop at KMart and only for "Blue Light" specials.
If you like Nieman's items, better follow the Egals or Jacksonville.

The Cowboys signed this guy to get through camp and preseason practices. If he becomes anything more, it's a bonus. Every team brings in guys like Jenkins every year. No need to get that worked up about this.

If every move or every player is not pro bowl caliber....some on here will always find fault, as they do with anything....It's laughable anymore....
Jason has even mentioned what you just said, need guys to get through practices, and if they show something, then they may have hit on a player.

I can see some joking about it a bit, that's fine, but some are really serious...LOL...we can call it passionate I guess.......oh wait, with Dez, one of our own, it's a tantrum, but any other player on another team, it's passion...never mind....:lmao:....

You forget.....we have paid, professional scouts on this very board.

I don't know the player very well, so I don't know if it is a decent signing. I tried to get an idea by reading the comments but I can't glean any real information between the overly optimistic and the unnecessary jerk sarcastic remarks. Can we get unbiased report please?

Camp body only. Don't read too much into this.

Entire DL rotation could be described as such, nary a first rounder or pro bowler among them. Okoye, Mayowa, Irving, McAdoo, McClain, Russell and even Jack Crawford were ALL camp bodies (some are still) until recently. 2nd/3rd rounders like Lawrence, Gregory and Collins have proven nothing and are going to be unavailable to some degree in 2016. Even Ty Crawford is gimpy again.

And prize FA and vet DL Thornton has all of 4 career sacks to his name.

Depressing to see it presented that way, but true.

Good points, but Thornton was brought in here to be a run stuffer. At least that was my understanding. If the Cowboys start to invest in the d-line the way they did the o-line, this could be one of the best teams in the league.

He's supposedly lining up at DT.

Haven't gotten word on his nickname yet.

If he reports late and slaps some clipboards out of some coaches hands he should collect a check here through the holidays.

Makes sense, he's built and has similar metrics to Ty Crawford. Jack and Irving who are both in 270-280 range also rotate at 3 tech as well.

You are correct, but Marinelli even likes his 1 techs to be quick off the ball rather than being trash cans full of dirt. Even the 1 tech is required to have burst off LOS instead of just holding ground and occupying 2 players. Otherwise he'd bring in more guys who are 320-330 instead of 310 and under. Thornton is 309. Nick Hayden was barely 300 lbs. That is way undersized for the average nose tackle/1 techs in the league. Marinelli likes to convert 5 techs from 3-4 systems to play 1 tech it seems.

Hayden is playing the 5 tech for Cleveland right now.
