Wouldn't that be a new contract, not an extension. It is hard to sign an extension if there is no contract in place.

Anyone else surprised by this?

The "vibes" that I was getting gave me the impression that Holland was no longer in the team's plans.

His getting a two year deal certainly goes against that belief.

I thought he played well when he had the chance a few years back in Pittsburgh and the run game seemed to be more physical with him out there.

Granted there wasn't a large body of work to look at...

The aging Dallas Cowboys offensive line surprisingly didn't get much younger during the draft.

Jerry Jones waited until the sixth round to take tackle Sam Young, and didn't draft a guard. It's not that we think Doug Free can't hack it. But Dallas risks watching their offensive line get old all at once without quality young players behind them.

Knowing the team needed some depth inside, the Cowboys agreed to a two-year contract with guard Montrae Holland, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Holland, 30, was Dallas' only unrestricted free agent. He will be a backup guard.

There are some potentially younger guys on the OL as well.

Free, hopefully he does well this year.

Brewster, the staff really seems to like him.

T Bright - I'm interested to see how he does this TC. But I think he has the chance.

Sam Young - He's got a shot to at least provide some depth.

I'd bet guys like Tepper (sp?) have a shot to at least make it on the PS this year.

Next year, we'll need to probably draft another OL and continue to add to the mix.

Somone show me an OG available in FA you would rather have starting if either Bigg or Kosier go down.

Holland is a decent insurance policy at either OG position. We are stuck with Proctor as the backup C for another year. Now the question is, who's the swing OT going to be? Sounds like that will take a while to answer.

How many OL will Dallas carry? 9 or 10?

Starters: Free, Kosier, Gurode, Bigg and Columbo
Backups: Brewster, Proctor, Holland
Fighting for a spot: Young, Bright and Mquinstin.

I sure would like a bit more insurance at OT. Come on Flozell, nothing wrong with a cush backup job.

PS: I hope there isn't much of a bonus involved for a two year deal, since I would imaging Holland will be replaced next year.

I think T Bright may have a shot knocking Proctor off the roster.

I think it was Hos who said that the Cowboys are trying Bright at Center as well.

I knew they were high on him, but I hadn't heard the center position mentioned.

Now the question is, who's the swing OT going to be? Sounds like that will take a while to answer.

At the moment (remember I said "at the moment", please), It looks like Brewster would end up as the gameday swing tackle with Proctor as the back-up guard/center. If the event that Free was expected to miss extended time, I would think that Bigg would move out to LT and Holland would slide into his spot.

I think it hinged on us getting a guard in the draft. Since that fell through, Dallas wanted to make sure it was covered at the position.

Right now, the only backup guard we know we have on the roster is Cory Proctor, and we all saw how it worked out when he had to play that position in games.

The Cowboys are protecting themselves against that and against Travis Bright, etc., not showing enough to earn a roster spot.
