Cowboys Sign Former Browns DT Perrion Winfrey

For now. In Flus system the 3T holds importance so adding Winfrey makes a ton of sense.

I just don't believe we will go into season with just Mazi and Toia there will be another on PS at least.
I agree on the importance of the 3-tech in this scheme. A pure 1-tech is not going to be used that often because Eberflus uses the nickel D more than a lot of coaches. Maybe because of that, he doesn't feel the need to keep too many pure NTs on even the 90-man roster. Like I said, I can see Akingbesote and Daxon being viewed as both.

This is always the argument that I struggle to accept.

2024 was a disaster, but Schottenheimer gets a pass because it was McCarthys failed scheme.
2023 apparently that wasn't the case though, and Schottenheimer gets credit for because Dak had such a good year?

I'm fine with either argument, but not both. Personally I think Schottenheimer had a massive influence on the offense both years, but I can understand arguments to the contrary. What I don't get is playing both sides of that.
I wasn't trying to play both sides, wasn't even really trying to make an argument. I was presenting additional context.

In the same way you can't accept both, I can't accept one without the other, they are both just facts.

Shotty has been on staff since 22 as a consultant. He became OC for 23 season so both 23 and 24 should be included in the conversation, no?

You can't say well I'm hesitant to see any positive because of a bad offensive output in one year of tenure and ignore the good offensive output of the other.

I never suggested he gets a pass, but more and more we are hearing how McCarthy refused to do things other than his way last year
If there were changes, it was one week only after heavy questions from media, then it went right back.

Zero issue with the start of your post, I agree completely that both 2023 and 2024 should be included in the Schottenheimer evaluation.

Personally where I would disagree is in the bold. Honestly I think 2024 was a beautiful coaching job offensively by this staff. I loved the scheme as the year went on, and hope we see pretty minimal changes from 2024 to 2025. I think a lot of what the Cowboys did down the stretch really goes hand in hand with everything Schottenheimer has discussed this offseason....balanced run/pass formations, heavy short splits, increased motion rates, etc. My only real knock on the Cowboys offense last year was the talent level which is on the GM, and the predictable tendencies which is likely on the play caller. Actual play design was beautiful at times. Really a lot of the run designs and blocking assignments looked fairly similar to some of the power concepts he used with the Rams a while back. I really think Schotty had his fingerprints all over this offense last season. I'm not sure where the McCarthy refused to do things other than his way thoughts come from. I know some fans have accepted that as truth, but I really don't see a ton of evidence of it, and I could be wrong but I'm yet to see any credible sources suggest that.

Bro...Its literally a thread about DTs. No one is talking about Prescott or 12 and 5 seasons. What people are saying is that we are behind the rest of the division at DT.....Pretty hard to argue that, especially given the Eagles recent dominance at the position.
I don’t know while I agree we don’t have the deepest position at DT I do think Osa is just as good as most. I think Solomon will bring nice depth. It’s gonna corn down to Mazi. I don’t think we know how bad or good he is yet.

I think they want a player who could do both if asked.
