Cowboys Bring Back LB Tearrius George

You just knew the Cowboys had to add someone to their depleted linebacker corps.
With Justin Rogers waived/injured on Thursday, Brandon Williams (torn ACL) going to IR soon and Stephen Hodge not expected to play because of a nagging knee injury, the Cowboys are getting rather thin at linebacker.
An no, DeMarcus Ware can’t play the whole game in the preseason.
So the Cowboys have added some help with a familiar face, signing Tearrius George, who went to training camp with the team last year and spent 12 weeks on the practice squad, before New Orleans claimed him last December.

George finished the year with the Saints but was released and spent some time this summer with the Dolphins before being cut.

He can play outside linebacker in the 3-4 scheme and should get the chance to compete for a backup spot. Last year, he had 12 tackles in the preseason for the Cowboys, and led the squad in sacks with two.
George has also spent time with the Calgary Stampeders of the CFL. He was a teammate of Terence Newman at Kansas State.
With the addition of George, the Cowboys officially have 77 players on the active roster. They must trim that down to 75 after Saturday’s game with the 49ers. But that should be easy, considering that rookies Robert Brewster (torn pec) and Williams will be eligible to go to IR.

That shouldn't be a problem late in the next two pre-season games.

he's serviceable and knows the scheme and a vet: good pickup for now IMO.

Did we deal with him directly or did we have to go through the man with the yellow hat?

at least it not Willie McGinest the older than dirt guy

he certainly has the tools to be a 3-4 pass rusher being 6-4 #250

George doesn't have great timed speed (he ran in the 4.8-4.9 range in the 40 before the draft) but he plays fast. He has good acceleration and burst off the line and can be a dominant pass rusher at times. On the down side, George can sometimes have trouble shedding blocks and could benefit from being more physical.

good move Jerry

Rosters cut to 53 on September 4th.

Enjoy your 7 days in Dallas Mr. George.

Smart signing from the standpoint that we don't know what could happen in those seven days. If there's another injury to the linebacking corps, then we need someone capable of filling that spot.

If we had waited until an injury happened, who knows if George would be available.

Hopefully, everyone stays healthy and we won't end up needing him, but I'm glad to have him for insurance purposes.
