Signed by Cowboys Cowboys sign OL Rob Jones

Guard. But has played tackle.

Dallas literally signs guys to one year deals (Ronald Jones, Royce Freeman, Chuma Edoga) and just replaces them with more junk the next season.
That's proof positive they let analytics rule their decisions and in no way ever plan to actually go all in to try to win a championship. They're all about just making the playoffs if they can and that's good enough. They want the flashy names for the big contracts for Jersey sales, but to actually field a championship capable team? Nope.

Age (when season begins): 26

Draft: Undrafted in 2021, signed by the Miami Dolphins

Experience: 4 years

Previous Teams:

  • Miami Dolphins (2021-2024)
Pro Bowl, All-Pro, Awards: None

Expiring Contract

1 year, $2 million

2024 Review

17 games started

Jones started all 17 games at left guard for the Dolphins in 2024, his first season as a full-time starter. He struggled throughout the year, allowing five sacks (1st the team), four quarterback hits (1st), 19 hurries (2nd), and 28 pressures (2nd) (according to Pro Football Focus). PFF had his overall grade for 2024 right around average.

2025 Outlook

Jones is a veteran player who can provide solid depth for an offensive line, with the versatility to move around if needed. He could grow into a reliable starter with more time on the line in the role, but the Dolphins are looking to upgrade their guard positions for a reason. Jones might be best used as a third or fourth guard option on a roster.
If he allowed that many pressures, sacks, etc., with a mobile QB, imagine how many he'll allow with Dak.

Yea. Will Hernandez.

You know his name because he played college ball in Texas ... you haven't really followed his career but know the name.

Yeah. Let's sign an older player to compete for a role when there are younger guys that are just as mediocre.

I'll go with the guy five years younger.
Hernandez grades out much higher and it’s a one year deal. Hernandez also played well under klayton Adams and knows his scheme

He was in the wrong system, Mike McDaniel got their in 2022 and changed the running scheme to outside zone. He was already on the team and was used out of necessity.

He isn't the most fluid mover, and in that scheme he was always a step or two out of position because of all the pulling trying to get to the edge.

He might not be the best signing, but he should fair better in the Cowboys scheme.
What scheme will we have under Adams and Riley?

Miami ran the ball last year pretty well with Achane and Jones started every game. You don’t have to have an all pro at every position on the line if you have the right scheme. I guess if you extend Smith and Bland soon I won’t complain.

I think the Dolphins dont see it that way, do they ?

I don't mind it.

IMO he wasn't as bad as his PFF grade.

The only thing I recall from Jones was that he was mainly at LG, which is of course Smith's position.
Miami had a rotating line, especially with Robert Hunt leaving last season, but I don't recall Jones at RG that much.

The Jones Boys are playing 4-D chess. The rest of the league is busy finding starters while we’re finding 3rd/4th OG options.
