Signed by Cowboys Cowboys sign OL Rob Jones

So the cowboys are still dumpster diving. They’re just dumpster diving earlier in the FA process.

Winning.

It does this year. You can’t look at the cap one year at a time. You have to look 3-4 years down the road. Clearing cap isn’t just about today. What you don’t use this year carries over. But how they structure Micah could save several million this year or you could put more in this year and save down the road. Doesn’t matter how you structure to the player. All he cares about is how much is guaranteed. Ideally you front load some and backload others, though Jerry never does that
Yup. But, I'm not the one who brought up freeing up cap space "this year" to pay Micah

"Jones earned a 56.1 PFF overall grade as a starter for the Miami Dolphins last season. He has yet to have a season of playing 300 or more snaps and earning a PFF overall grade above 60.0"

Upon reviewing the film, in spite of PFF's rating of him, this is my favorite pick up so far.

Solid depth on the o-line.

I think they will sign Micah. If they don’t they are even dumber than I thought. But freeing cash gives you lots of options and if you don’t spend it, then it rolls over to next year

Bass Jones Richards Thomas ….depth .
The OL is one area I wouldn’t expect much draft action . This is an Inexpensive way to bolster the line with a veteran who has started .

He was in the wrong system, Mike McDaniel got their in 2022 and changed the running scheme to outside zone. He was already on the team and was used out of necessity.

He isn't the most fluid mover, and in that scheme he was always a step or two out of position because of all the pulling trying to get to the edge.

He might not be the best signing, but he should fair better in the Cowboys scheme.
What scheme will we be using this season? Has it changed with the new coaches?

The expectation is Klayton Adams at OC is going to change to a power blocking scheme in the running game. Under McCarthy Dallas used mainly inside zone blocking and not much variance from that.

Jones does not look like an inspiring signing but he is apparently a good downhill road grader; which in theory fits what people think the Cowboys will be doing.

Looks like is was a UDFA in 2021 so he has been in the league 4 years (playing in 49 games with 30 starts) and played.....right guard and right tackle!
Thank you sir.

Normally it takes a few pages before someone actually bothers to look at what happened in more than the most facile sense possible.

Yeah, we haven't figured out who is going to replace Martin, but we've at least set it up so there are multiple options. We should be able to find a suitable choice from among Bass, Hoffman, Richards, Jones and Thomas. We also could also move Beebe there and play Hoffman at center.

I'm more worried about the tackle spots, but we have some options there as well. I'd like to see us lure Tyron back for the right price to be our emergency option.
