Signed by Cowboys Cowboys sign RB Javonte Williams

Broncos played him and ran him in obvious run fits into stacked boxes with a bad OL. They did more RPO with the other backs. When they threw him the ball he was really good. I watched every game this kid played at home in college. If he is healthy and not handicapped by several injuries this guy is a great signing. What's better than great signing? That's what this is.
He’s hasn’t recovered from his injury in 2022. Hasn’t even come close to being the same player. If he hasn’t recovered after 2 1/2 seasons he isn’t going to.
This signing is about having a RB who can pass protect until the rookie can do so!

The comp pick is mainly based on the amount of money the player signs for. Supposedly their production in that first season plays a role but I've never seen how that affects it.

But to get it you can't have similar signings that would cancel it out.

Thank you . So they must have a sliding scale on salary signing and how that effects your comp compensation

Man,
someone already mentioned it. It's like a replay of Royce Freeman last year.
This guy seems a practice squad type, training camp cut waiting to happen.

Maybe he'll blow up into an All Pro behind this new run first offense who knows.
But I think they coulda got someone a "little" better.

Hope doesnt do anything for you. Dont you get it?
With hope you end here in forums where you answer to people who cant spell right.

Get your thumb out of your butt, go out and learn something.
Tackle life!

Or do you want to be a wisenheimer for the rest of your life?
You should a long walk on a short pier. Insulting folks here is against the rules. Evidently, you're not aware of how to conduct yourself here without becoming a nuisance. Try having something resembling consideration for a change. It might gain you some respect while you learn how to act.

In other words, grow up!

He looks the same from what I've seen. The Broncos OL sucked for all their RBs and Payton changed the running game system. He was never going to be a superstar but he runs with decent speed and quickness, breaks tackles and is just tough to get down.
Stout short yardage RB who can pass block and catches well.

For the price, nice role player, and may have upside as a runner. People like to whine about the failure to sign the high priced players, but this guy looks like pretty decent value. We do free agency well on the cheap end.

I would be interested in an analysis of his runs by situation and how it compares to starters generally. Likely that his low numbers are a result of a higher percentage of his runs coming on short yardage downs.

When I saw that chart I knew I had to post it in here immediately.

This is exactly Zeke 2.0 and the only way I see him having any success is with the Cowboys new OL coaches implementing and executing new OL schemes and a renewed commitment to the run.
He's the Zeke role, but not old, entitled, and washed up.

Pass blocking, pass catching, short yardage back. This time, young enough that he's probably not washed and still has some upside from recent years.

I like it. Leaves them open to draft a pure runner who needs more experience at the other roles of a RB.

His tape doesn’t look bad.

He looks like Chris Johnson, fleet of foot compared to Zeke.

Why not draft two RBs and save cap space? This signing to me is almost a joke.
This signing should in no way prevent us from drafting two RBs.

He just covers us for the RB roles college players usually need a year or two to develop.

We had Deuce and Malik still on the roster. Basically, no one.

We could draft 3 and not be overdoing it.

The "Throw them off the Jenty scent" move.
I think Jeanty will be gone, and I think 12 is a little too rich for Hampton. I believe we won't take a back until the second or third.

Right now, I'm leaning toward receiver or corner in the first, but that could change depending on what else we do in free agency. Offensive lineman wouldn't surprise me based on the value of who is expected to be available.

I won't be surprised at all if we don't pick up a back until the third round.

Buffalo just resigned Ty Johnson for 2 yrs at $5m. I would have taken Johnson over Williams. Or Elijah Mitchell. Or Nick Chubb. Or several other guys.
Schott wants a more physical back along with being young. Big E & Little E want cheap. Johnson is proof that a second hand RB can be productive in a backup role. He's been cut twice from Lions & Jets before hooking up with the Bills.

If he can block, keep the receiving output, and get back to his rookie form running after 2022 knee injury, he could surprise.
