Cowboys source, Cowboys close to deal with Osa $21 Million a year

Maybe the DC sees something in him many of us do not. with that said I still have DT at the top of the needs list for the draft.
He was pretty disruptive in getting pressure on the QB, unfortunately that doesn't show up on the stat sheet in the form of sacks. I actually think he's a good DT with upside to get better, but it's a lot of money for a player with 13.5 career sacks.

Same way I see him. Love to have him in the DT rotation, just not the game wrecking 3-tech. Maybe if they draft a monster 1-tech like we hoped Mazi would be, Osa will be able to go to a higher level.

This is the “splash” free agent signing they will crow about.

And when it comes to anything this FO says my mantra remains: I will believe it when it happens.
I’m ok bringing back Osa, Tank and extending Micah.

Give me 3-4 solid starters at WR2, LB, S and RG

Right. Just like Osa's success has a lot to do with the attention that Parsons draws.
Granted I think a lot of the data on double team rates is BS as these publications throw out numbers but cant really define what a double team is they do typically show OSA getting double teamed at a lesser but similar rate to Carter. I do think OSA demands more attention than people realize

We wouldn't expect you to claim anything else.
You wanna sign him? Fine. For 21 mil? Get outta here.
You people are nuts. You complain when they don't sign players and then you complain when the sign a good player that they need at the market rate. It's just stupid.

no reason to sign him to that much money when his production does not warrant it

100%, all about adding a few guys that can potentially be part of the equation. Maybe you hit on 1 out of 3, while the others are strictly backups that give you a few decent snaps.

Get it done Jerry. Invest in the trenches. I'm proud of you. Once it's done though, don't use it as an excuse to neglect the position for the next 4-5 seasons.

Next up...let's lock up Mazi Smith for 15 mil a year. He's almost an average #4 or #5 D-Tackle, and those kinda guys don't grow on trees (not that any tree could support him), so let's void the last 2 years of his rookie deal and pay him 15 mil a year.

That way, we'll have legit #3 and #4 quality DTs locked down, for only 46 mil a season.

U gotta secure your backups....before you start shelling out REAL money for starters.

I'm not comparing the coaches here, but the players are interesting. One of Bill Parcells first orders of business was to lock up Flozell Adams. At that point in his career a lot of people didn't believe in him. As it often turned out BP was right.

Its always better to pay for future projections over simply past production.

I couldn't imagine paying Osa like he's about to be, but I could see him move on and us regret it. I won't complain if they lock him up. The cupboard is pretty bare and maybe if we can find the right guy to put beside him those pressures turn into sacks.

as usual Dallas is scared............at least that is how they act when they overpay for "good" not great.

They are scared of not finding something better, so they overpay average, and then stay average.
:hammer:Honestly think the right move was the transitional tag......buy yourself one more year. I'm afraid he gets paid......then really disappears. Hell if you do......Hell if you don't.

I don't know about double teams, but ESPN has Odighizuwa 12th among DTs in pass rush win rate (Milton Williams was sixth) at 11%. Two (Chris Smith, DeForest Buckner) were tied for first at 16%. And not in the top 10 in run stop win rate. (Ten was all ESPN shows, with the best of that group 46% and worst 38%)

I agree and was calling for it, but it costs them less this year to do a longer-term deal, so I guess they want to go that way. I just feel like they'll sign him to a big contract and believe they are done at DT, except maybe adding a late-rounder or two for depth.

I don't mind Tank for the right price because I think we have bigger needs than DE and Lawrence is solid as part of a rotation there. Kneeland, Parsons, Williams and Lawrence are (with maybe even Lawson) are a good group with the potential to be better depending primarily on Kneeland's development. With a first-round pick and three seconds, I just believe there are higher priorities for fixing this defense. Doesn't mean I wouldn't take a stud if he was clearly the best player.

The thinking must be they don’t want to start over completely. I’ll bet they still double dip at DT in the draft. One would assume he can take another huge step if they actually provide him a good running mate.

That they need? With all the holes, what else could they do with 21 mil in FA versus locking up the same players we can't win with?
That...is stupid.

You are absolutely nuts. They can sign whoever they want and signing a top free agent dtackle is a good move. Osa is ranked at 7th overall at NFL.com and is the top dtackle available at PFF.

nonsense

And what does ego have to do with this. They're resigning a FA. We will see if it's a good or bad move over time, but stop the ego crap. Totally not relevant in this signing

Now go have fun at your pity party and don't forget to pickup fallen pebble

Dallas fans a couple of X's I came by

Dallas fans are waiting to either
A. Call the front office cheap when they don’t meet his offer
Or
B. Said we overpaid when they do
This is fascinating. You are trying to sound like the voice that is in your head that keeps you at the trough. "We will see if it's a good or bad move over time..." - I mean...what WISDOM!!! Where did you come up with that one?!?

"Nonsense" is a post offering nothing but chastising others for not being as credulous as you are. OK...I get it...you can't help but bend the knee so any analysis - critical analysis - hurts your feelings. I'm sure you'll get over the fact that I don't think Osa is worth a $21mm contract...if not...oh well...
