The Dolphins have signed former Cowboys offensive lineman Cory Procter, according to Aaron Wilson of the Carroll County Times.

Our View: Capable of playing many positions along the offensive line, Procter was heavily sought after in recent weeks. He's a nice addition for a Dolphins team that has gotten a whole lot better this offseason.

Dolphins sign G/C Cory Procter to contract

The Dolphins have signed offensive interior lineman Cory Procter to a contract. The team beat out New England as well as Denver in adding Procter.

Procter had visited both the Broncos and Patriots before visiting Miami last week.

As reported on this blog last week, Procter is insurance against injury as well as adding another veteran with experience to the mix.

Procter, 27, was released by the Cowboys last Monday. He is 6-4 and 311. He was active for every game last year but barely played. He played in place of the injured Kyle Kosier at guard in 2008 for Dallas.

How heavily could it have been if he wasn't worth a draft pick?

I mean, it's not like he got released and every GM's jaw dropped and started calling his agent.

Teams almost never trade a draft pick when they know the player is going to be released anyway. And plenty of players who get released are sought after by multiple teams. Whether that qualifies as "heavily sought after" is up to one's own interpretation.

As far as Procter, the Dolphins (ie., Parcells and Ireland) are the ones who signed the guy who couldn't even beat out Procter (Joe Berger), so it's not surprising that they signed Procter, too.

Miami Dolphins OL Cory Procter will compete for one of the starting guard position during training camp, reports Omar Kelly, of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

Did Miami not watch Cory Procter get overpowered constantly as an in line blocker when subbing for Kyle Kosier in '08?

Proc is only effective when double teaming or pulling so he can build some momentum.

Proc isn't starting talent and the team that knows him best didn't even want to bring him to camp this year despite not having a known alternative for the pivot behind Andre Gurode.

I think the Dolphins employ a zone-blocking scheme. Which Proctor kind of fits better than the man-blocking one we employ.

I agree that Parcells' ability to judge offensive linemen is overrated (although he did draft Jake Long, who has made the Pro Bowl every season). His ability to judge OL talent is irrelevant to the question though, given that the Dolphins weren't the only team interested in Procter.

I guess this shouldn't be a surprise that Procter would end up with Sparano.

Berger started for them the second half of the season last year, and played well enough to help make the Dolphins one of the league's best teams in short yardage.

Lousaka Polite was a big part of their short yardage success.
