I’m always interested in all time Cowboys statistics and came across these last night on pro-football-reference when I couldn’t sleep.
Anyway, maybe I’m the only one who finds this stuff interesting, but I thought I’d share a few of them that stuck out to me.
Passing:
Tony Romo and Danny White have won the exact same number of games: 62. Danny did it with 13 fewer losses (and a much better team) though.
Tony is first in TDs by a large margin (201 to Aikman’s 165), but has only the fifth most interceptions in team history (98).
Tony has led a franchise record 19 fourth quarter comebacks, 4 more than Roger and 3 more than Troy. Roger leads with 23 game winning drives though, compared to 21 for Tony and 22 for Troy.
Aikman has an incredibly pedestrian TD percentage of just 3.5% placing him well behind every other major starter in team history. That’s what a dominant goal line running game will do for you.
Tony trails Aikman in career passing yards by 4065. Dallas has had 6 quarterbacks with 10,000 yards or more, 5 with 15,000 or more, and an astonishing 4 with 20,000 or more.
And just for fun, Joey Galloway has the fewest passing yards in Team history, -1.
Rushing:
With 7 more rushing yards DeMarco will pass Roger Staubach on the career rushing leader board. He will officially then be 11th. He needs about 500 more yards to pass Julius Jones to move into the top 10.
Julius Jones had more carries as a Cowboy than Herschel Walker, Ron Springs, Felix Jones, or Dan Reeves. He is 8th all time in carries.
Marion Barber ended up with the 3rd most rushing TDs in team history behind TD and #22. Meaning that on almost any other team he would be a legend. In fact, his 47 career rushing TDs would be franchise records in Arizona, Baltimore, Carolina, Houston, or New England.
And just for fun, Dez Bryant is the only player in team history to have exactly 1 yard rushing.
Receiving:
Jason Witten is now 110 catches ahead of Michael Irvin, 860 to 750. With 2 more he will tie the most rued over former Cowboy in team history, Jimmy Smith, and move into 17th in NFL history.
Dez is 13th in team history in receptions with 268, and he needs 13 more catches to tie Frank Clarke.
What do Richie Anderson, Amos Marsh, and Kevin Williams all have in common? They all have more career receptions as Cowboys than Roy E. Williams’ 94.
And just for fun, Tony Romo and Roger Staubach each have 1 career reception, Troy edged them both with two receptions, but Danny White put the quarterback receiving beat down on them all by hauling in 3 passes during his illustrious career.
