Cowboys Strength and Conditioning

I came across this article and found it pretty interesting. Thoughts?

Posterior chain strengthening/conditioning is vital, but it's not really anything new. It's basically one of the fundamentals for any strength program, and I'm sure Woicik, who has 6 SB rings, is well familiar with it.

I think the main problem, and it's leaguewide, is guys simply don't spend enough time conditioning or in pads to compensate for the degree to which a lot of this is tested in the rigors of live action.

Mainly because of CBA requirements.

Some players bodies will just never live up to the NFL no matter what they do. Like Austin, Johnson.

I guess one thing id try and do is make something like Yoga a "voluntary" (but not really) program for the team. Obviously, you'd need to change it up for the big fat dudes. As amusing at itd be, it might do some good.

I also don't think enough guys in the NFL really take their dynamic stretching pregame very seriously. But, who knows.

The new CBA has really messed up things.

I think there need to be a few more years to be sure, but I think those on the cutting edge, like Seattle and Philadelphia, may have an advantage.

I am sure Woicik still shakes his head every day at how little access teams have to players.

Unless I am missing a year or so, all of his rings were under the old CBA.

I do think some players just over-train and over-lift in the weight room.

I envision Tyron going right back to heavy squats each time his back gets slightly better. He seems like the type that might be addicted to lifting. His arms are bigger than some mens legs yet he does not appear to have an ounce of body fat.

Woicik does not seem like the type to tell players to back off.

There a trade off in that before Woicik returned, especially when Wade was the head coach, the players didn't seem dedicated enough to the weight room.

I think the peak of the Miles Austin hamstring issues was before Woicik.
