At the beginning of the season, I came up with an idea for a new stat, which I'm calling the Stupid Mistake rating. The formula is giveaways x 6 + # of penalties.

On Thanksgiving we had our 2nd best day, finishing with 6 points (6 penalties and 0 giveaways). This brought our overall average down to 16.22, which is tied for 17th in the league. We're almost exactly average. Overall, we were dead last in the league in 2008 using this rating so we've gotten better.

Dallas' average in its 3 losses is 25 and 13 in its 8 wins.

League best (Chargers): 12
League worst (Carolina): 21.36
League average: 16.22
Cowboys: 16.27

Hey, we're almost average now. Thanks for keeping this up.

Quite possibly coolest thread of the week, even if I don't like our rating. I think it's a good tool to gauge areas in which we need to improve.

If the stupidity counts as penalties..
what percentage does Flo have? :D

For those of you following this, here are our game-by-game ratings:

TB 4 W
NYG 28 L
CAR 9 W
DEN 19 L
KC 25 W
ATL 14 W
SEA 11 W
PHI 17 W
GB 28 L
WAS 18 W
OAK 6 W

We've done better than the NFL average in 5 games, all of which we won. We had 3 games where we did a little worse than average but not awful. We were 2-1 in these games (17 in Philadelphia, 18 against Wash, and 19 at Denver). And we were truly awful in 3 games ( 25 in the KC OT win and 28 each in the NYG and GB losses).

Really cool stuff. I appreciate you doing this all year.

Looking at the KC game, we really were lucky to escape with a win.

it was stupid mistakes (3INTs and a fumble by felix) that lost the Week 2 game vs the Giants. Take back any one of those turnovers and odds are Dallas wins despite having 3 turnovers. THAT is frustrating.

I appreciate everybody's feedback on this.

One last way to look at these numbers: we're 7-0 when we measure less than a 19 on this rating.
