I view this game as a gateway game. The Eagles stand between the Cowboys road to the first clearly defined playoff birth in quite a while; and perhaps a re-imergence to the Big Game (said with an echo effect, reverberated several time)!
This game sends either one of two messages to the rest of the NFL ...
1) Cowboys message ..."We're back!"
2) "We've never left ...and we're out of our slump!"
Some, but not all Cowboy fan are not from an inner-urban East Coast major metropolitan city like Philly (I know some of you that are). So let's have some fun with a metaphorical scenario in any typical South, North or West Philly neighborhood ...
Picture a gloomy overcast evening where the rain is just starting to drizzle in a huge back alley dead-end street. All the neighbors are out on their back alley fire-escapes, the overfilled trash cans have been pushed over to one side of the alley or the other. Clothes have been taken down from the clothes lines, milk, wine, and Beer bottle have all been picked up and placed in recycling bins. Tom cats (huge male cats that don't run away or freighten easily) are up on high chains link or wooden fences pirched to see what's all the excitement -- even runaway junk yard dogs are howling for no reason, anticipating what coming. This isn't just an ordinary rival gang fight tonight, it's the meanest, nastiest, most grueling dogfight that this city has seen in many years.
At one end of the alley are the clean cut, Dallas Cowboy winners of the last meeting between these two rivals. Confident, poised, fresh from a bye week vacation right after a disrespecting surprise slap in the face, kick in the behind loss to the home boy Eagles.
At the other end of the alley stands a very tired of all the disrespect generated from negative press and those who would betray their own team players. But that's all over now, and the Eagles are back to square things up with the Cowboys -- but this time in our block, and in our neighborhood for our community to witness.
There won't be a whistle to start this war, this time it will be a gun shot! The referees have all recently passed a course in criminal justice, and unarmed take-down procedures for self defense.
What was that ...that was either a 1957 Chevy backfiring, or the start of the game.
This was just a fun version of how I see the game tonight -- but one thing is for real ...this is going to be a hard fought dogfight!
PS: I've already thawed out the crow stew ...just in case!
