Cowboys talk real talk. Why is Romo better than Eli?
By Brittany Willis

TONY ROMO VS ELI MANNING:

Obviously we should all know what my take on this is, however I will humor any Giants fans that may stumble upon this article. Eli Manning, as far as I am concerned shouldn’t even be talked about in the same article, much less sentence as Tony Romo. Not because I am bias or because I cannot give credit where credit is due. But the only thing that Eli can hold over our star player is those Super Bowl rings. Which to most seem to be the deciding factor in their opinion. But to us logical, fans we know it is much, much more than that. The Rivalry goes back too far to even touch on.But I will say that the Giants dominated the rivalry early on, the Cowboys definitely made their presence known in what would become one of the greatest and most anticipated match-ups in NFL history. With that comes a lot of past times But we are in the here and now, and as of right now the Giants have a lot to be concerned with. One being their quarterback. We all have to admit, no matter what team’s jersey hangs in our closet, us fans are constantly battling to put together a top ten NFL quarterback list. Or even a top five for that matter. One thing that we all have to agree on is; there are very few, if any, that carry as much pressure and weight as the guy that lines up behind center. As Romo has always been, Eli is always an interesting topic of debate. Top ten lists can be all over the map, depending on who you ask and after what game. There is a large agreement amongst most of us knowledgeable fans that the same top 4 always seem to surface. Maybe not in the exact order as the opinion before, but none the less; Rodgers, Brady, Manning (the older brother of course) and Drew Brees. The best of the rest of them is largely prejudice...

The Cowboys have a recent history of underachieving and being disappointing. Whereas the Giants have a recent history of being overachievers. It makes games like this that should probably be blowouts, nerve racking.

Romo is much better than Manning, has a better offensive line, better wide receivers, better tight ends, and I think most would take the Cowboys RBs over the Giants.

I think our defense was already better than theirs. We're better in every phase of the game and this game shouldn't even be close. It's time for the Cowboys to come out and impose their will on an inferior team.

I'ts always seemed to me that Eli Manning didn't really love the game as much. I felt that way early in Romo's career but I can tell now that he's passionate about it. Old-age will do that to you.

The difference between Romo and Eli can be summed up in four plays over 2 seasons.

2007-

Romo: perfect pass down the sideline in the playoffs for a game winner, Patrick Crayton stops for no good reason. Incompletion.

Eli: throws up a prayer, David Tyree catches a pass on his helmet.

2010:

Romo: Perfect pass to clinch the playoffs in crunch time, Miles Austin "loses the ball" in the lights and moron Play by Play announcer accuses Romo of overthrowing the receiver.

Eli: perfect pass to Mario Manningham who makes a great catch on the sidelines to keep a game winning drive alive in the waning minutes of a Super Bowl.

FIFY

That's not the difference though, that's just why uninformed people don't realize just how big the difference really is. The gap is massive.

It's why Eli is considered "clutch" and Romo not in comparison by casual watchers. If both those plays happen by Romos WRs, Eli is without a Super Bowl.

Miles screw up should not have even mattered - our defense blew that game.

There's no debate now and there's never been a debate. Romo's twice the QB Eli is, even if his career resume isn't as good due to Eli's rings.

In literally any team sport, you can find tons of examples of guys who won championships despite being mediocre players individually.

What you CAN'T find, however, are examples of guys who put up tremendous individual stats year after year despite being mediocre.

If "rings" is your only argument, then you have no argument. Romo's a better player than Eli like LeBron's a better player than Kobe.

Different positions. Lebron is a sf/pf. Kobe shooting guard. Can only compare Kobe to other sg's and Lebron to other sf's/pfs.

Figures don't lie and liars don't figure !!!

Mark Twain popularized the saying in Chapters from My Autobiography, published in the North American Review in 1906. "Figures often beguile me," he wrote, "particularly when I have the arranging of them myself; in which case the remark attributed to Disraeli would often apply with justice and force: 'There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics.'"

I have always abstained from this argument because of the simple fact, if you can't see the difference, then you don't know enough about football to be able to see the difference.

I won't spend my time trying to convince someone of something that they are ultimately unable to understand. I have my kids to thank for this nugget of knowledge.

I'll take Romo. Doesn't mean Eli is a bad quarterback. He's a 2x Super Bowl champ and that can never be taken away from him. Romo to me has always elevated the level of play of those around him. Carried the Cowboys for the years. Last season things finally started to change a bit. Not so much reliance on Tony and a much better overall team. This season with a revamped pass rush, the return of Sean Lee, a more mature offensive line, and I feel all the pieces are in place for a Super Bowl run.

Fair enough. Kobe's the 2nd-best SG ever so hopefully it didn't sound like I'm comparing him to Eli freakin' Manning.
