here is the LB they reportedly talked to. Kind of seems weird given that this kid is undersized and Parcells wants to get bigger at that position.

Leroy Hill

Official Bio College: Clemson Height: 6-1
Position: Inside Linebacker Weight: 225
Class: Senior 40-Yard: 4.75
SCOUTING REPORT
Strengths: Very instinctive...Has been highly productive throughout his career...Has a high-motor and always gives 100%...Moves pretty good and is all over the field...Was a great special teams player early in his career.
Weaknesses: Doesn't have the size you look for, both in terms of height as well as weight...Has trouble fighting through traffic and getting free of blocks...Only average in coverage.
Notes: Very good college player who doesn't project well to the pros because of his lack of size...Could make his mark as a backup and special teams performer at the next level.

I've only seen him play a couple of times, but the times I did watch him he stood out. He's a good football player. I read somewhere that he might end up being a safety in the NFL.

Not if that 4.75 40 time is anywhere close to accurate...

From what I've read about him, he looks like a possible late round special teams pick... perhaps the coaches think they can put 15-20 pounds on him without losing what little speed he already has...

Well crap... if he can play special teams then BP will DEFINITELY trade down to get him in the 7th...

I don't care how fast he runs in a straight line, on a track, wearing shorts. He's got football speed. I've seen him play. He can move... fast.

That said, you don't see too many guys go from LB to FS. LB to SS, yes, but not FS. I think he'd be an excellent late round pick.

Sorry, Rack, if he's really a 4.75 second 40, he's too slow to play safety in the NFL...

HOWEVER... I have found another website, www.draftshowcase.com, that has him listed at a much more respectable 4.55 second 40...

That same website also lists DE Jim Davis' 40 time at just under 4.8 seconds, which is much better than the 5.0 seconds that I've seen attributed to him...

I guess the combine will start to tell us the truth about these guys' speed...

What really surprised me about Hill is that most sources list him as a MIDDLE linebacker, at 225 pounds...

They are not in touch with what we need. Another small linebacker? Linebackers converted to Safety its a SS move. We need FS and Large lb'S..........

I agree. Although if they wanted Hill as a SS and he were available in, say, the 5th round I'd be all for it.

We'd still need a true FS though.

He did play MLB in college. He won't be one in the NFL obviously. Not unless he gains about 20 - 25 lbs.

We're going to bring him in for SS, and move Roy to LB like you asked.

Draft Thomas Davis if you want to do that. Rotate Roy into a Monster back role some. He's already doing that in our 3rd and long defense.
