Cowboys | Team not very interested in T. Johnson
Thu, 28 Jun 2007 11:41:55 -0700

Randy Galloway, of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, reports the Dallas Cowboys have little interest in unrestricted free-agent DT Tank Johnson (Bears). "Any interest would be pretty minimal right now. There were a lot of issues coming out of college with this guy, and now it's been compounded by what went on with the Bears. I don't think we'd be interested at all," said Cowboys' director of scouting Jeff Ireland.

I know I'm not. Imagine the crap ESPN and others would have given us if he were a Cowboy last year.

I'm not surprised at this reply at all...

Dallas is stacked at DL anyway, save the NT position.

I think everyone wants to really see what kind of recipes Wade Phillips can cook up for this defense first. I know that I do.

With names like Ferg, Spears, Canty, Hatcher, Ratliff, Ware, Ellis, & Spencer, that's a seasons roster for a year on the D-line without any knee-jerk additions.

I say do it.

We can give him a contract that is incentive-based and that will give us a low cap-hit if we cut him loose.

These are the best contracts; contracts for very talented players who have played badly recently or have gotten into trouble. Good for us bad for them.

My only concern is that this guy as well as alot of lineman need to be in a structured team enviroment working out so they can work out half of the hostess cakes they ate... It would be unlrealistic to think he would be in great physical shape let alone game shape.

He is going to need to work his butt off and impress whichever team he goes to in half a season or he's gone. You get a few chances in this league and whoosh.

It baffles me when people mention T.O's name whenever a NFL player gets arrested or "makes it rain".

T.O may be a ****** on the field but the guy is no "thug".

If Tank Johnson is the "ideal" NG in Phillips 3-4, then Jay Ratliff should be a very good fit. 4 sacks is nothing to sneeze at for a NG (Tank's season sack numbers are .5, 5 and 3.5) , and that's trending upward from the 1 he had the year before.

This is true. Being an egotistical, arrogant, self-centered, loud mouthed jerk is not a criminal offense
