Cornell Green is one of the very few that made it to pro bowls at two separate positions- CB and Safety. He definitly should have gotten in. Howley, Hayes and Green are the 3 absolute worst travesties; Cliff Harris is not far behind. AND as has been pointed out, if Swann is in then Pearson should be as well.

Maybe it has been talked about before, but I assume this list is players that played primarily their career with DALLAS? If not, Charles Haley has to be in the HOF, doesn't he?

That is correct, on both counts.

I also didn't include players I feel are locks to make it like Emmitt Smith, Larry Allen, and Deion. This was mainly to talk about guys that have been overlooked.

When is Haley eligible for admission? Seems like he has been gone 5 years as well?

His last season was 1999 so he has been eligible for a couple of years now. I assume he has been nominated but he has not been a finalist.

He has 100.5 sacks for his career which is good but not great as many of the top DEs have around 200 sacks. By comparison, Jim Jeffcoat has 102.5 career sacks and he isn't exactly HoF material. A very good player but not a great one IMO.

His 5 SB rings should have some bearing on his nomination but I can see how the mediots will look at his stats instead.

He wasn't exactly friendly with the media either which I am sure also hurts his chances.

200 sacks? I didn't realize that some had that many? I don't know if we win 3 out of 4 without him. How many years did he play in comparison to the other DE's with more sacks? I thought he was a pretty dominant DE for a decade.

How Hayes cannot be in there just completely escapes me. He of course doesnt have the best stats of all time but when a guy changes the game forever he deserves to be in the hall of fame.

its akin to saying pedro martinez doesnt deserve to be in the hall of fame becuase he isnt going to get to 300 wins.

yeah I too am totally baffled as to how Hayes cannot be in...

I have heard HOF's from his era talk about how unbelievable it is that he is not in...

This is the best list I could find - from ESPN: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/alltime/leaders?cat=sacks

Sack Leaders
RK PLAYER SACKS
1 Bruce Smith 200
2 Reggie White 198
3 Kevin Greene 160
4 Chris Doleman 150
5 John Randle 137
6 Richard Dent 137
7 MICHAEL STRAHAN 132
8 Lawrence Taylor 132
9 Leslie O'Neal 132
10 Rickey Jackson 128
11 Derrick Thomas 126
12 Clyde Simmons 121
13 SIMEON RICE 121
14 Sean Jones 113
15 Greg Townsend 109
16 Pat Swilling 107
17 Trace Armstrong 106
18 Neil Smith 104
19 Jim Jeffcoat 102
20 Charles Haley 100
21 William Fuller 100
Note: Active players are in CAPS.

Haley is tied for 20th with 100 and a lot of the guys ahead of him aren't going to end up in the HoF. In fact, only 2 guys from that list are in the HoF: Reggie White and Lawrence Taylor.

Bruce Smith is a sure thing and Derrick Thomas & Richard Dent have been finalists and will likely get in someday. Other than those, maybe Kevin Greene and Strahan (mostly because he is such a media darling) but I don't see any others that are likely.

I'm actually a tad bit surprised that Moose doesn't get more attention. He was a fullback, but he was THE premier blocking fullback of his time.

I could go on and on about Hayes. He seems like the biggest travesty. He only revolutionized the passing game and had superb numbers when going up against his peers on a year-to-year basis. Writers love to rant and rave about Art Monk, but I just don't see him having anywhere near the impact on the game that Hayes did.

YAKUZA

Moose isn't getting in.
As important as he was to the Cowboys, he falls into the second tier of all-around, steady, dependable and effective, but not at the superstar level.
We all love da Moose. He simply is not HOF material when you consider all the greats who still have not gotten into the HOF

Hays has always been the first name I bring up in these conversations, but does he really deserve it? Has he played enough? I know he helped change the way the game was played, but do his stats warrant entry? If so, we have some more names to consider after (or before) Hays.

They should be looking at potential HOF candidates on how well they stacked up against their peers on a year-to-year basis which shows you how good they were at their position at their time. The game changes, teams throw the ball much much more than they did back in Hayes' day. But if you look at Hayes' stats compared to his peers at the WR position, he has the numbers. Also, with the improvements in medicine and training, players play longer now than they did in Hayes' day. Looking now it appears that Hayes didn't play long enough, but compare him to other players that played during his era, he had an ample career.
