I watched the Patriots gane yesterday morning. For them, 3rd and 2 is an obvious passing down. And that was before Steven Ridley went down.
We have the luxury of running or throwing even on 3rd and medium. Running on 3rd and 4 or 5 is not a bad play call at all. Not many teams can say that right now.

It opens so much more of the playbook when you are 3rd and short versus long.

You can set something up for later in the season on these types of plays.

We're also really good at converting some big third and longs so far this year. Our passing game may not be the centerpiece of the offense anymore, but they can get it done even on obvious passing downs.

3rd-and-5: 3 rushes, 6 passes (the 3 "rushes" were Romo's 21-yard scramble against NO and two Dunbar runs at the end of the TItans game, just burning clock).

We may have the luxury of running on 3rd and medium, but we never actually do it.

Maybe not. But the threat of the run is all you need. If other teams respect the run, you can take advantage of it.

And that little stat alone means you will beat plenty of teams on Sunday.
