On the basketball court, Demetrius Harris' senior season wasn't especially impressive. The 6-6, 237-pound forward averaged 9.1 points and 5.3 rebounds per game for a University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee team that went just 8-24.

But Harris' impressive physical attributes have plenty of teams intrigued about his pro potential. They just so happen to be NFL teams.

According to Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, NFL officials have been contacting Harris to gauge his interest in playing football professionally. Harris, who was an all-state football player during his high school days in Arkansas, was supposed to play football at Arkansas State, but didn't qualify academically. Instead, he went the junior college route, playing basketball at a Missouri community college for two years before transferring to UW-Milwaukee.

Despite having been away from football for more than four years, Harris has "more than a dozen" NFL teams evaluating him. According to McGinn, that list includes the Cowboys, who are supposed to meet with Harris on Monday.
Making the leap from college hoops to the NFL is rare, but it's not unprecedented, especially for tight ends. The two most notable examples are San Diego's Antonio Gates and New Orleans' Jimmy Graham, neither of whom played college football.

Cornell Green was a basketball player who stuck to the 62 team as an UDFA who never played college football. I didn't want him to feel left out.

As a late round pick, sure. We have plenty of holes to patch up, TE in the 5th or 6th.

After watching this vid, he certainly has all the physical tools and athletic ability to play TE. He'd have to bulk up obviously, but he has good speed and quickness and great jumping ability. Has big hands to snatch the ball. I like him as a prospect. It's tough to make that transition to football if you never played at the college level, but this kid has all the tools to do it. Look at these #'s:

40 Yard Dash - 4.45 seconds
Pro Agility - 4.0 seconds
Vert - 37"
Broad - 10'6.5"

Could be a huge steal. Low risk/high reward pick if late in the draft. Would be a nightmare matchup for LB's if he could make the transition. Antonio Gates and Jimmy Graham are both great weapons for their respected teams. Look at these #'s:

You know that street free agents Colin Cochart and Andre Smith can play?

How was this guy not smart enough to play at Arkansas State?

That a major red flag to anyone else?

Quit with the project player.
If you want a tight end then draft a tight end.

That's definitely an issue, since Arkansas State is known to take players with questionable backgrounds.

Knuckleheads like Josh Jarboe, Michael Dyer, etc...

They are looking for bodies to makeup 54-90 in Oxnard. If he doesnt show anything he gets a few weeks vacation in CA. This is a UDFA and some of em turn out lumps of coal.
