1:10 p.m. - While all eyes will be at the left tackle spot this week as the Cowboys are hopeful Tyron Smith (ankle) can play against the Giants, there could be some changes at the left guard spot as well.

Cowboys executive VP Stephen Jones told 105.3 "The Fan" that the coaching staff will at least address the left guard spot with Connor McGovern and Connor Williams, who started at guard early in the season before McGovern took over four games ago.

"I'm sure they'll discuss that. They wanted to give Connor McGovern every opportunity and not have it be something where he's in there one game and out the next, that type of thing, and know they'll be evaluating that this week," Jones said. "As we head down the home stretch, we got to get the right group of guys out there. We're so fortunate that we have eight, nine guys that can come play for us. At the same time, I know they want to get some cohesiveness and a group going. I know that's one of the things they'll be talking about as well as this week."

Hopefully, Conner Williams has had a chance on how to improve his technique on handling bull rushers, twist and stunts. I just want the best 5 on the line and each person’s back-up ready to go. A failure to plan is a failed plan.

Also, I love McGovern as the fullback in the JUMBO package. He exploded through the line. The big man seems to be a natural at full-back.

Go Dallas!!!

Biadisz does not help both Williams and McGovern much at all.

Cowboys need a better Center.

Cowboys need a better Oline Coach as well.

Start practicing Farniok at Center during the offseason.

Williams should be the starter. Not to hate on McGovern, but he still looks like a development project. Physically hes a better prospect than Williams, however Williams is the better technical player right now. Give McGovern another year to develop and that may not be the case, but right now he struggles with reach blocks and getting to the second level. Put him back in the FB/hulk package where he excelled.

Neither of them are much to write home to Mother about.
No, but Williams is the better of the two. If he cleaned up his penalties he wouldn't have lost his spot.

Martin ranks #1 at guard per PFF with a 94.6 rating. Williams has a 71 rating (18th) and McGovern a 68 (24th). Neither is great. The bigger problem is our C is ranked 23rd in the league.

Right Tackle = Tyron Smith (solid)
Left Guard = L. Collins (solid)
Center = Biadisz (Servicable) +
Right Guard = Zack Martin (solid)
Left Tackle = Steele (Solid)

This is your best 5 OL at each position. Why the GM/CEO/HC and OL coache fails to see this is beyond my comprehension.

Get a real QB and we won’t have to have All Pros at all positions

back to Williams for me. The penalties were painful to watch at times but we are a better running team with Williams and I'd at least like to get back to seeing if he was the reason.

Or maybe go for the Coach Landry approach in 1971 to Staubach and Morton!................I'm kidding.

There's not a huge difference but there is a difference..we had to see what we had, so what is it? CW needs to get back in for the stretch but where does that leave us for next year?

Can CM be the guy in 2022? IDK and I don't see us re-signing CW for the price

That's a good point, front office probably know already Williams won't be back so have used the opportunity to evaluate for next year. Thing is, forget next year, we have a shot at winning it THIS YEAR so get Williams back in and accept it for what it is.
