Foul. 15 yard penalty. Unecessary use of cryptic references.

You know maybe only 1% of the people here know what you mean by Byzantine.

Sorry for the Draconian penalty.

:wink2:

Could have been worse. I could have invoked an obscure 7th century BC Greek tyrant. :p:

I really think if they are bringing in RB's its to entice the people behind them that might RB's to trade with us (ie, Broncos, Panthers, Jags, Colts)

This is what happened with the Broncos last year.

Shanahan spent too much time reading about what a great evaluator of running backs that he is and decided to grab Clarett a round earlier than most people thought he would go.

It would be pretty ballsy for Shanahan to roll the dice two years in a row.

Carolina likes those big backs who can move the chains. I could see them pairing him with the often-injured DeShaun Foster.

He would fit into our regular habit of wasting a second round pick - this guy does have some talent but needs to find a work ethic. Life isn't going to be so easy at the NFL when your team isn't stocked with first rounders and playing against a bunch of scrubs.

At least we aren't wasting ENTIRE drafts anymore. ;)

Nobody is going to believe we are seriously interested in White at #18. But while every team is on the lookout for value, I really think Parcells/Ireland have a fetish for "dented cans" (Canty, Petiti) who may respond to Parcells' particular brand of motivation. I read something somewhere that said Dallas locks into a relatively small pool of "players of interest" before the draft and slots them accordingly. I'm not afraid to hate on a USC player, but the fall seems to be happening late. I mean, he was fat at the combine. Having man-boobs is a long way from being Maurice Clarett. sure we just want to see for ourselves what White's problem is (something) and determine where he should be on our board, if anywhere.

Excellent post.

I think Jerry has that "dented can" fetish, too.

Yeah maybe its a smokescreen, but Julius has yet to prove he's even a 1000 yard back in the NFL in two seasons. Maybe they aren't happy with him. As far as White goes the film doesn't lie. He has top 10 talent. He had about 40 more TD's than Clarett in college and actually played 3 years. I think it's pretty impressive the guy could eat a whole turkey weigh 250 lbs and still be the 2nd best player on the field in the rose bowl and outshine the heisman trophy chosen one. Good vision, Great feet and a penchant for contact. If someone can flip the switch he as much potential as any back in this draft.

i still dont think we give up on julius though.....his rookie year he ran for over 800 yards and only played half the season even emmitt smith ran for only about 100 more yards his rookie season....and he played every game and even when julius missed 3 games he was still only 7 yards shy of a 1000 yard season......dont think they are gonna give up on this kid

I'd have laughed.

I'd still have thrown the flag, but just like with Byzantine, I'd have laughed.

The tyrant's name, you ask? None other than Draco, as in "draconian." That's right, time for some penalty box time yourself, Mr. Admin. :D

I know who Draco was. I knew you did too. That's why I used it in response.

Now scoot over. I got to sit down too.

Panthers | Coaches suggested to L. White he not run
Sun, 16 Apr 2006 06:46:18 -0700

Darin Gantt, of the Rock Hill Herald, reports the Carolina Panthers may have played a small role in USC RB LenDale White not running at his Pro Day, and it could ultimately benefit them. White said in a pair of interviews last week that he decided not to run after dining with Panthers coaches the night before the workout.

He said he was told that he shouldn't if he didn't feel 100 percent, since there was plenty of evidence on tape of the kind of player he was. The Panthers obviously weren't trying to torpedo his draft stock, and it's probably just another example of running backs coach Jim Skipper giving some honest and learned advice. Now, there is a chance White will fall to the Panthers when they make their first-round pick in the NFL Draft Saturday, April 29.

OK, this sounds shady. Couldn't they get the Panthers on something like tampering for this? It sounds a little like wink, wink... yeah don't workout. We guarantee you won't slip past us. Then White looks bad at Pro Day, people say no thanks, then the Panthers take him late 1st round??

Yeah it will cost White money, but he'll be playing for a contender. Reggie Bush will be making 1st pick money, but playing for what is still basically an expansion team.

What if it was us for example telling Vince Young, "Yeah, don't even try on the Wonderlic..." You know the media would be all over that.

Maybe it's just the Conspiracy Theorist in me talking.

I don't see Dallas doing this, I think ya'll will give Jones one more year to prove himself

maybe this is just smoke screen to teams picking after Dallas who may want to move up to secure White

seems like a lot of teams at the end of the first round are interested in White

I would be shocked if we took any running back not named Bush with our 1st pick...and we all know where Bush is going.
I'd be tempted to take DeAngelo Williams in the 1st. That guy is going to be one heckuva back for many, many years to come.

On the same token...

It seems you say it's a great system.. Surely Matt Lienart, Lendale White, and Reggie Bush aren't all being drafted in the first due to a great system... ONE of them has to be the bolt making the others stay in place and shine.

Do you penalize Bush for not running every play when they have White?

Vica Versa with White. Should he slip for havin a hiesman winner ahead of him?

What about Lienart? Surely having 2 first round runningbacks made him look great passing as teams were afraid of those backs!!!!!!!!

Lol, thats like saying Troy would be the Troy we knew without Emmitt or Michael.. You can't PUNISH them for having great talent around them... but on the same hand, would Troy have been the Troy we respect for say.... Cleveland Browns???

There is no way I see us taking White in the 1st round but if he is still there in the 2nd I would be VERY tempted. I see the Panthers taking him late in the 1st though if he is still there so it isn't likely to be an issue anyway.
