Twitter: Cowboys to waive three, including Albright

Is his back surgery something that would normally hold a player out for the entire season?

Just because they are putting him on IR doesnt necessarily mean that the surgery would require the whole season to recover from.

True, but they are reporting that it's a herniated disk and depending upon the procedure, he's going to be unable to do much of anything physical for a while. And on top of that he missed most of camp. I doubt that if he came back late in the season he would be of much help.

Wouldn't make much of Albright's release -- unless someone claims him, he goes on IR and we retain his rights.

Ok, thats what I was wondering, I couldnt find what the exact surgery was for.

My thought was that, if they really like Holloman and Magee, placing Albright on IR would be a good way to keep both of those guys on the roster without having to get rid of Albright altogether.

There is that too.

If that were the case, then they would probably have waited until the cut to 75 to release Albright. Moving him to IR now allows other teams the chance to claim him, whereas he would be safe if moved to IR at the the time of the cut to 75.

I bet the coaching staff's collective heart wouldn't be overly broken up by Albright being claimed by another team.

I just betcha.

Seems like Albright had a better use in the 3-4. I wouldn't really mind losing him, especially it it was between he, Magee and Holloman
