I found this nugget when reading about DeAngelo's pro day

Stephen Gostkowski, the UofM's career-best placekicker, had a great workout with the Miami Dolphins on Tuesday at the Liberty Bowl and also kicked for scouts on Friday. He has a workout scheduled with the Packers and Cowboys next week. ARM is also representing Gostkowski and expects him to get drafted.

Probably but he routinely booted the ball 5 yrds out of the end zone last year. He wasn't a great fg kicker but booms the ball on kickoffs.

I doubt we spend a draft pick on a kickoff specialist. There are numerous unemployed kickers out there that can do just fine on kickoffs.

Yeah I doubt it also but I just thought it was cool that Dallas was looking at a Memphis player :D

gotta keep looking regardless of signing.
I know kicking was horrible last year but I can't see that causing us to sign the second highest paid kicker in FA AND spending a draft pick on one.

I agree. This guy is a decent kicker but he doesn't have the strongest leg. Not a candidate for KO specialist. I don't think we'll go that way anyway but there's a couple guys that have power legs you could get either as 7th rounders of UDFA's that would work if BP wants to see touchbacks.

Maybe this is only in hopes he doesn't get drafted. Coming to Dallas right now would be an ideal situation for some undrafted kicker, getting Bill Parcells on his resume and also learning behind the games most accurate kicker for a year or two--which it sounds as if this kid could certainly use some help on his FGs. Unless he would have a guarenteed starting job waiting for him somewhere else, then this would be ideal if he doesn't get drafted. 2-3 years behind Vanderjagt and if he comes along good it could be 10-15 more as our only kicker on one of the most highly visible teams in all of sports.

He routinely put his kickoffs 5 yds through the endzone last year....yes I know that's in college but it was also all outdoors....no domes. He has a very strong leg but he's only an average fg kicker. If he gets drafted it will be late and I highly doubt by us.

We're certainly not keeping 2 kickers on the roster if one of them's job is to fetch Vanderjagt's drinks at the local tavern. Even if you got a real power leg that could kick off roster spots are like gold to an NFL HC. Get used to the idea of Vandy kicking off, that's the way we'll start anyway. If he's kicking them to the 10 all the time then BP will call one of the several unemployed college guys for a tryout.

Gostkowski walked on at Memphis in 2002 and quickly earned a scholarship. He was 9/14 on field goals and 32/37 on extra points. He scored 101 points in 2003, going 19/28 on field goal attempts. He was named First Team All Conference USA in 2004, nailing 20 of 24, including a perfect six for six from outside of 40 yards. In 2005, Gostkowski was outstanding once again, going 22 of 25 on his field goals and a perfect 10/10 from outside of 40 yards and 35/35 on extra points. He was the active leader in the NCAA with 70 career field goals. Gostkowski has also handled all the kickoff duties for four years and was a pitcher on Memphis' baseball team. Gatkowski lacks great upside because of his just decent leg strength, but his consistent all-around production warrants late-round consideration in the 2006 draft.

Vandy's kickoffs are around 60 yards, which is average.

McBriar is working on kickoffs as we speak, I'd bet.

One of the two will kickoff, no way in hell we tie up 3 spots on kickers. All this will do is put a premium on our coverage teams to keep opponents below 20 yards a return.

My concern regarding kickoffs has nothing to do with field position and everything to do with keeping Vanderjagt healthy to kick field goals. The Colts had a kickoff guy to help prevent injury to Vanderjagt as he apparently had an issue with groin injuries. That's why I would like a kickoff guy. So Vandy wouldn't risk getting injured kicking off and put this team back where they were before they signed him.

That's one person's opinion but I saw him with my own eyes so I know his kickoffs are better than decent. We'll have to agree to disagree.
