Only in the sense they were unwilling to hand over a 2nd contract to a guy that was a mental midget and likely to implode at any second. You don’t think them trading for DK and Pickens up for a new contract didn’t factor into this?
Except that Pickens in in the last year of his contract and will most likely be too expensive for the Cowboys to re-sign. He will not be a Cowboys when the Steelers are on the clock on day 2 of the 2026 draft with the Cowboys 3rd round pick.If any of these guys were ever going to be a legit weapon we would already know it.
You don't pass on a 24 year old 6 foot 3 talent like Pickens to wait and see.
The coaching staff knows what they have at WR. They would have drafted TMac for a reason. They traded for Pickens for a reason.
All I can say objectively is that for 29 years this team has not been to a NFCCG.I am. If they had this offseason last year or the year before they may have won a playoff game.
i mean, it IS a gamble of a trade, so i do understand the reservation, but the upside is through the roof. if any other team did it, this board would be on fire with "WHY DIDNT WE DO THAT??? ANOTHER HONEST OFFER JUST TO SAY THEY TRIED"Cowboyszone. Jones is an idiot, never does anything, needs a top WR
Jones trades for WR
Also Cowboyzone. Damn Jones is an idiot, look at the top WR he picked up
Be honest, had Howie made this trade, Jones would be an idiot for letting Pickens slip through his fingersYep. And somebody has to be the the guy that waves pom poms and buys the newest jersey.
Yeah...just like Charles Haley was bad for the culture...lol! How'd that work out??"A" for effort but wrong culture for this player. The good news is the team just got a lot more interesting. The bad news is Mike Tomlin couldnt make it work with this player.
yeah this is where i'm at. looking forward to this year, but no clue what to expect moving forward.Yeah and dont get me wrong I think its a good move for 2025 to bring in Pickens, I just dont see how this works out well long term for the Cowboys. If Pickens works out we have two monster WR contracts on the books for a team that wants to be more run heavy. This could be OK? I guess it depends on where we are finding the money to do this. My bigger concern is would this prevent us from extending someone else the next couple of years....Bland? Overshown? If he doesn't work out we have a cheaper WR2, but a problem WR2. That could be worst than needing to find a WR2 and the reason Pittsburgh has moved on.
Brown sees himself as WR1, Eagles agreed with him and paid him accordingly. Pickens sees himself as a WR1, Steelers disagreed with him and were not planning on paying him. Best they were going to get when he signed elsewhere was a 3rd round comp pick in 2027.Brown definitely has a diva stretch in him and has shown it at times but he doesn't come close to what Pickens is, Also, Philly is just a better franchise and culture than we are so they are more likely to reign in a guy like Brown than we are with Pickens.
Um Haley had a an actual HOF HC. Pickens will have a card board cut out. Have you actually watched this team the last 30 years?Yeah...just like Charles Haley was bad for the culture...lol! How'd that work out??
which evidence is that? his upper echelon deep play pct? the guy is a mixed bag overall, but some of the narratives are lazy. just google man. That's just not true and shouldn't be uttered by anyone. The evidence has long been in.
And people wonder why the Cowboys don't compete for Superbowls anymore, it's a rudderless ship far too often when it comes to franchise philosophy when it comes to building a team.....I'm not questioning Pickens talent, He's a very good receiver, but far too often the juice isn't worth the squeeze when it comes to taking on a massive headache on a franchise when Culture was suppose to be the top criteria especially listening to what ex-players said that left this offseason....It’s football. Players win games.
We just got a stud.
The Cowboys culture is always going to be the Cowboys culture. Schottenheimer is not changing the circus that is the Dallas Cowboys regardless of who steps on that field.
We got a big play guy and big plays win football games.
Again, if this cat feasts off of single coverage, is Jerry ready to pay him #1 receiver money if he puts up #1 numbers?Exactly. And if he plays his card right he can get paid. It may be here or may not but i think he’s gonna be fine. Guys know how right in a contract year.
i'm not sure this is true. brown is a diva in every sense of the word, was openly beefing with his qb while they were winning, and from all accounts nearly divided the lockerroom. all while he was making all pros and getting the ball plenty.Brown definitely has a diva stretch in him and has shown it at times but he doesn't come close to what Pickens is, Also, Philly is just a better franchise and culture than we are so they are more likely to reign in a guy like Brown than we are with Pickens.
It has been in the past but there’s something different going on nowShotty changing the culture with “high character” guys already.
Shotty was hired specifically to not be in control of anything, just as I’ve been saying all along.
This trade proves it.
The cost aside, WR2 got better. And this helps Lamb. With the other additions if we can run the ball effectively then pass protection gets easier. Hate giving up a 3rd for a guy with 1 year left. But he should be motivated. Contract years generally bring out the best in players. Then you have to decide if a 3rd for a one year rental or pay himConsidering the Steelers wanted #44 overall, if it ends up being a third round pick. I’d consider that fair value. If anything, it benefits the Cowboys.
Pickens is, by far, better than any other WR that was available right now.
As to signed free agent WR’s, he’s better than Diggs or Kupp. Adam’s? Dealers choice there maybe.
Bottom line, WR2 was our biggest off-season need and it’s now done. People will find reasons to be mad, but this is a big move.
