Only in the sense they were unwilling to hand over a 2nd contract to a guy that was a mental midget and likely to implode at any second.

You think if Pickens was more like Lamb in terms of demeanor and attitude, the Steelers would have done what they did this offseason?

I think they would. But like I said earlier this is a trend for the Steelers…they did not want to pay Juju, Claypool or Diontae Johnson. Are all these guys malcontents? Because we know he put up with Antonio Brown for 8 years and he was far worse.

A 4th for Mingo last year, and now a 3rd for Pickens this year. I guess the upside is that while a headcase at least we know Pickens can play and has talent.

All I can say objectively is that for 29 years this team has not been to a NFCCG.
So I am not happy and will not be happy until we have some degree of post season success.
That's my bar of success for this team.

I’ve lowered my bar after what I’ve witnessed these last few years. I don’t even know if we can make the playoffs let alone the NFC championship. But I know these moves at least are going in the right direction.

Kinda signals giving our 4th this year for Mingo wasn’t a genius move. That’s what I always conplain about is plan. All decisions have to be coordinated to be effective. A 4th could have got you a player who could help this year. Now your 4th is gonna be fighting for a roster spot and be 3rd WR at best. I think Turpin is better WR3 option most of the time

Like the player in Pickens. But trading a 4th for Mingo if you didn’t think he was gonna be at least 3rd on depth chart was expensive. We have better options at WR3 with Turpin and using blue some. Blus runs better routes than Mingo can

Count me with those who aren't big fans of a 3rd plus change for a one year rental. That's an overpay unless you're fairly serious about contending in that one year that you're renting, and not just because of the out-go cost... but arguably even more so because of opportunity cost, ie, you know those snaps that otherwise may have allowed you to discern whether your receivers who plowed some new ground last season and plausibly may have developed this season into something of significance?... those aren't happening, and you're so much more likely next off-season to be in this same place.

Having said that...

Given the conventional wisdom that receivers as a group, unlike most positions, routinely need a season or two to prove their true value and trajectory... it is reasonable to me that you spend draft capital on a proven asset in a season when you are persuaded you're going to have a legit contending roster.

Having said that...

I'm not among those who were/are persuaded. Is there the potential to contend, certainly. But too many ifs for me to feel good about it. I'm a fan and I'll hope for the best, and will try to maintain a positive attitude if only for the sake of my own blood pressure... my heart will be in the right place, but my head will have to be dragged along until I see that the "ifs" appear to be breaking our way.

I’m thinking most of your responses should start with, “Finally”!

Giving up a 3rd for first round talent to me is a win. Ask yourself where Pickens would have been ranked in this year’s WR draft class? He can run by people, has a great catch radius, will give you Gallupesque toe-drag swag, and just has that juice.

Little bit of a diva and mild malcontent at times…yep. Should this be shocking coming from a topflight receiver? I get the culture thing, but you can’t have a locker room full of choir boys and if your staff is worth a crap, you’ll know how to handle it.

I’ve said for years the Cowboys needed to stop playing square peg in round hole in relation to how they treated the WR#2 position. This helps Lamb, Dak, the O-line, and the running game which will be somewhat by committee (could be decent committee).

If you want to play Negative Nancy it could be regarding contractual terms. But so what (yep…it’s that easy to say, other teams do it) and why put yourself through that. Figure it out later.

Don’t you want to see what it’s like to finally have a very legitimate target opposite Lamb?

It would be better if we hadn’t have a 4th for Mingo. If Tolbert is WR3 then we wasted a 4th on Mingo. And I’d rather use a combination of Turpin and blue in most 3 wide sets. Get some speed on the field

Brown sees himself as WR1, Eagles agreed with him and paid him accordingly. Pickens sees himself as a WR1, Steelers disagreed with him and were not planning on paying him. Best they were going to get when he signed elsewhere was a 3rd round comp pick in 2027.

Steelers are happy. Cowboys are happy. Now. What’s it going to take to make Pickens happy. Brown is all smiles with contract and the Super Bowl ring he’s getting. He’s still a diva.

Brown isn't in the same stratosphere as Pickens when it comes to being a diva and unhinged.

The Steelers didn't want to pay him, in large part, because they couldn't trust him. It's really that simple.

"A" for effort but wrong culture for this player. The good news is the team just got a lot more interesting. The bad news is Mike Tomlin couldnt make it work with this player.

Did Tomlin make it work with Antonio Brown? I suspect if a yiung Big Ben was playing in Pitt, Pickens would have been fine. Playing for crappy qbs can put a cramp in your daily routine.

Also... no way to know, but Micah said he would take less.... but why would he take less if the Cowboys didnt do anything. Well now they have done something. JUST MAYBE Micah takes 37 to help facilitate a deal with Pickens.
