TRADED Cowboys trade for George Pickens and 2027 6th for 2026 3rd and 2027 5th

We said the same thing last year and the year before and the year before that...we can't accomplish it all in one year. But when you don't have a plan and just go year to year you end up like the Cowboys.

I do think the offense will be better. I don't think we are a championship caliber team. If this was a one year rental it was a bad move. And we could have tried and traded for a DT or LB. But apparently all they thought about was WR.
We said the same thing last year and the front office was about 10x as active as they were last year. Again I'm just not seeing your point. We saw value with a WR for a third round pick who has a ton of talent and he is young and might get another contract with us. It was worth the risk to the front office to see how it plays out. Trading for a DT is not so easy. And we literally traded for a career starter at LB. But you act like we didn't also sign Jack Sanborn who is likely a starting caliber run stopping LB. And yes they also added one with a late round pick. But that's on top of Marist/Overshown/Clark/Bell. We have plenty of depth at that position. It shouldn't be any kind of major weakness by any means.

The risk is you have over spent on a third round pick. Anything less than a successful season and either an extension or a 3rd or 4th round pick back has to be deemed a failure.
The comp project is either a 3rd or a fourth. So if he doesn't work out it's really just a push.

The risk is definitely worth it especially if he plays like he is capable of.

Getting Pickens was. I said it back mid last season. Called it back then. Not Pickens but making a splashy move to appease the fans.
This was a move to improve the team. An area they had targeted even before the draft. Did you hear talk of making a move to upgrade the LB's? No. Did you hear talk of upgrading the S's? No. They did upgrade the DT's by drafting a player they had a 4th round grade on. They did not draft a WR. So now they make a move for a WR and it's marketing???

So we improved offense.
Threw a 7th rounder at defensive tackle one of the biggest areas of need.

Its shades of 2023. Top offense. Get your arse kicked in the playoffs

Clark sucks.
Bell was abused at LB
Overshown is injured yet again
And Marist who?

But ingress they come to Dallas and drink that magic water at the entrances and they are great players.

Late round picks are what they are. Late rounds picks don't work out 98% of the time.

And we have a one year rental. This is a move teams that are onenplayer away make. Do you think we are one player away from a superbowl?

how is it not a marketing move when the bigger needs were at DT, LB and saftey...oh yeah, we threw a couple of 7th rounders at the problem. how is it not a marketing move since everyone agrees we are not one player away from superbowl and we get a one year rental!?

WR2 was a need. why not throw 7th rounders at it. just like DT position and then make trades to get a good DT....

it is about selling tickets. when team struggled last year, seats empty, jerry being called out. his knee jerk reaction was to appease the fans by trading for Mingo. as if this team had a chance with Rush at QB and the injuries to defense...stupid move.

I predicated then that Jerry will make couple of splashy off season moves to generate hope and sell the fans are coming back...and here we are.

we got a 1st round talent for a 3rd & 5th for one year....

we better be in NFCCG or it was a stupid move. do you think we are good enough to be in the NFCCG?
No, we aren't good enough, but this post doesn't really make any sense. There is ALWAYS some degree of risk. He will cost us under $4M against the cap if he is "one and done" and the comp pick we get back if he isn't re-signed won't be all that much worse than what we gave up if you take into account we get as you, yourself put It "a 1st round talent". There is very little downside risk here from a salary cap or a trade value perspective. Nowhere near the potential upside of either. Not even close. The issue is of course Pickens going "AB" on us. The talent and trade value aren't debatable. Then there is the potential it isn't a one and done deal and he is here for a while. It's not just about selling tickets when it is one of your biggest needs and you fill it with a legit Pro Bowl talent.

The Cowboys could have done that. But it wouldn't have been called a marketing move either. Just like getting Pickens wasn't.
Exactly. If we traded for (or still do) up a comparable talent at DT for a comparable price it would be awesome, That doesn't mean this wasn't also a good move. It's not like going shopping at Walmart. The player needs to be available and fit your needs and be acquirable at a reasonable cap hit or for a reasonable price. When opportunity presents itself you make your decision but what DT was available that would be comparable in every way to Pickens as a WR? It's not like we have two equal offers (one for a WR and one for a DT) and picked Pickens

He's better than Cooper. And Lamb has developed quite a bit.
At this point in their careers Pickens is miles better than Cooper. I'm so happy we didn't;t re-sign Cooper and can't understand how anyone who watched him last year would have any interest in him other than as a dirt cheap signing.

ok, like I said, we better win the superbowl or the trade is meaningless, specially if Pickens leaves.

btw, every team is going to claim they drafted dawgs...until the pads come on and lights go on....lets see what they got first.
so, we shouldn't try? The trade was a great move and only one team wins the SB but you have to try and Pickens makes us a way better team

My hope is he balls out and the resign him
