TRADED Cowboys trade for Joe Milton

Puzzling move by NE. They were looking for a 3rd and the difference between what they got for him against where they drafted him is about a late 6th rounder.

They would have been smarter to hold him, showcase him in preseason and revisit in 2026.

For us this is a great move. Talent young backup QB with some game experience. Am I confident Milton is winning us games if Prescott goes down? Not quite, but the upside balances out

Cap penalties would be:

Pre June 1st would be $130M for 2026

Post June 1st would be $74M in 2026 and $55M for 2027

The 2027 offseason is probably the first real opportunity to move on from Dak, 2028 being the most realistic.
If dak were traded before the 2027 season started would the cap be screwed up? I'm no cap expert

So Milton was a 6th round pick a year ago right? He was a 6th rounder because he couldn’t throw a ball in the water while standing in a boat. I mean this guy has the look and athleticism but he has terrible accuracy. Why on earth would Dallas give up a 5 AND a 7 for a guy that would probably be available for free in a year or 2. These guys are so stupid it unbelievable.

I’m really confused. He’s a young quarterback, who seemingly has some upside. We did not overpay for him with draft picks. I don’t know how to process this information.

It's a win. Many of our fans dunno how to react anymore when something positive happens lol. I think we can feel pretty good about this one.

He first needs to learn, "Here we goooo"...

You know, the stupid snap count. If he can do that better than Dak, he has it made.
Hopefully, any cadence will be restricted to each individual quarterback, whether they be starter, backup or third string. An offense's timing can be influenced by it hearing a different quarterback yelling the exact same thing as another quarterback.

anything is better giving up a 4th!!!! I hear your concerns loud and clear, we wanted to draft someone anyways, so it was going to be a 5th or lower, we ended up getting someone with a little NFL experience

Overview

Rare physical specimen with the proverbial "arm talent to make all the NFL throws," but he's prevented from doing so by a lack of timing, accuracy and touch. Milton is gifted with a cannon for a right arm and can throw the ball as hard or as far as you want. His fastballs are often inaccurate and difficult to catch for moving targets, and he was wildly inconsistent locating his deep throws. He can elude pressure, extend plays and put jaw-dropping highlights on tape, but he's never been able to mature his game from splashy to consistent. He's primarily a single-side reader who struggles to improvise with his eyes. The physical ingredients could get him drafted on Day 3, but his lack of development over six seasons discourages his projection.

Strengths

  • Elite size and arm strength are both well beyond positional norms.
  • Throws blazing heat to beat coverage into tight windows.
  • Delivers long off-platform throws with the flick of the wrist.
  • Will stand his ground and take punishing hits to make the throw.
  • Able to keep eyes downfield while deftly sliding around pocket pressure.
  • Posted 32 TDs against just five INTs over three seasons at Tennessee.
  • Strong against potential sacks and escapes the pocket to extend the play.

Weaknesses

  • Disturbing lack of placement and timing as a deep-ball passer.
  • Completed just 38.6 percent of his throws beyond 10 yards (per Pro Football Focus) in 2023.
  • Struggles with anticipatory throws, running receivers into collisions.
  • Telegraphs throws between the hashes, giving safeties an easy jump on the ball.
  • Desires to throw the ball through receivers rather than deliver with touch.
  • Inconsistent tying his feet to eyes and squaring to his targets.
  • Frequently forces moving targets to break stride to try to make the catch.

Hopefully, any cadence will be restricted to each individual quarterback, whether they be starter, backup or third string. An offense's timing can be influenced by it hearing a different quarterback yelling the exact same thing as another quarterback.
part of the contract was to add in that he MUST adapt the Dak lingo of "Yeahhhhhhh here we go!"

Brady was also a sixth rounder. Romo was undrafted. You know nothing about this guy or football in general. Please just stop.

This is a no risk move I believe and there is upside. Dak was always going to be here in 25 lets see how training camp etc plays out.
Agree 100%.....remember in the past, they would just sign a low-level vet as Dak's backup. But they made it known they were looking to maybe draft his backup. To me, they are thinking 2-3 years down the road of trying to develop a possible replacement. In other words, IMO, Milton is Trey Lance's strategy 2.0.
