TRADED Cowboys trade for Joe Milton

So Milton was a 6th round pick a year ago right? He was a 6th rounder because he couldn’t throw a ball in the water while standing in a boat. I mean this guy has the look and athleticism but he has terrible accuracy. Why on earth would Dallas give up a 5 AND a 7 for a guy that would probably be available for free in a year or 2. These guys are so stupid it unbelievable.
They only gave up a 5th

Dallas received - Joe Milton and a 7th

New England received - 5th rounder

If dak were traded before the 2027 season started would the cap be screwed up? I'm no cap expert
Per Spotrac it wouldnt be too bad to trade Dak before the 2027 season. You'd still have a high cap hit, but it would save about $12M overall.

This would completely change though if they chose to restructure Daks deal again and push more money to the back of his current contract. Hes currently set to count as $74M against the cap in 2026 so the odds of another restructure are fairly high unless Dak completely implodes or struggles to stay on the field again.

Agree 100%.....remember in the past, they would just sign a low-level vet as Dak's backup. But they made it known they were looking to maybe draft his backup. To me, they are thinking 2-3 years down the road of trying to develop a possible replacement. In other words, IMO, Milton is Trey Lance's strategy 2.0.
hopefully it works out and it also don't prevent them from trying in next years draft depending on their record. Its a much better draft for QBs IMO next year.

He wasn't traded for to be the starter long-term. He's the bridge in case Dak gets hurt or the bridge to the eventual starter. In a pinch he can win us 3 games until Dak gets healthy

Different situations. Pickett was traded for a 5th and a backup QB with a smattering of starts; shows the Browns legitimately may start him. But main difference is Pickett only had 1 year of contract left… Milton has 3
How is it different? Pickett had value. Milton doesn’t. I question why trade him now but as far as having trade value? If he was a 6th round pick just last year how much do you think his value increased?

I wish I had more belief in our QB coach to develop him.
Yeah, I've been saying this in other posts as well.
Even IF the team gets a project/developmental QB or a highly pedigreed one, who on this staff do you trust to mentor him in a highly effective 2025 style passing game?

Schotty or no one else on his staff ain't nothing close to being a QB whisperer.

Cowboys!

In a pinch I don’t even think he’s ready but that’s ok. I don’t know why they insisted on playing Rush and not developing Lance but hopefully they don’t make the same mistake.

Has size and a cannon of an arm similar to Allen however is highly inaccurate and can't anticipate throwing recievers open.

Dont hate the trade for a 5th. Has huge upside but so did Lance and how well has that worked out for him in the league so far...
In my opinion, it is debatable whether Trey Lance's upside was huge before he was drafted. Did he continue having a huge upside after being drafted? After he demonstrated his potential as a starter--especially before Jerry Jones snatched him away from the completely willing 49ers?

I would disagree. Strongly so.
