TRADED Cowboys trade for Joe Milton

Nobody thought in 2016 a 4th round draft pick was going to excel in a manner that he did. He may have regressed or he may not have overcome Jerry and steven's buffoonery in roster building but hes a top ten QB who at times was top 5. There exist the possibility that in camp Milton can excel and if called upon in the regular season may win 10 straight or enough to get the job done. You never know lightning could strike twice

Or he could hold a clipboard all year but the price was right. I love this trade
Milton is so much better than Trey Lance and he didn't cost the Cowboys anywhere near as much. It's impossible not to like this trade. Even if he flames out all he cost was a 5th round comp pick.

So we CAN’T go off what he did in college, a full season as a starter in the SEC? But we CAN go off one NFL game against a team that had zero to play for. Gotcha.
A lot of highly touted college QBs end up first round draft picks because of what they did in college and end up being busts in the NFL. We’ve seen a number of QBs that were later round picks end up being very good NFL QBs. Dak was a 4th round pick. It all comes down to how a college QBs game translates to the NFL. It doesn’t matter that Buffalo had zero to play for. This was a big moment for Milton who was making his first NFL start and he made the most of it. Say what you will but he showed potential.

I really do not see it as NE winning over Jerry. It may turn out Jerry won this one.
I think it is a decent trade, as no way were they using a higher pick to go QB this year. They get a backup QB with better potential than other QB's that would be available in the 5th or later.

Some could have the same potential, such as Ewers, Howard, Rourke, if they were to drop to the 5th.

However, I do not like giving up draft capital either, but so far the picks they used in trades, those players much better to help the team now, than a rookie. So this year, they did well, so it seems so far.

This draft will and always has come down to what do they do with with their 1st 3 picks. I still would like a small trade down, get 1 or 2 more picks in the 1st 4 rounds. As all the 5th, 6th, 7th, round picks they have they will need to get lucky on.
I believe they now have 8 picks total, when they had 10. But they also got 3 players that can contribute right away.
Agreed on all points. They need to trade down and pick up 1 or 2 extra Day 2 picks.

I think there were teams kicking the tires, but the 3rd round thing… 100%. They basically traded him for what they drafted him with. Maybe it had to do with not having someone to make Maye look over his shoulder. Could be that he looked good against a team that was trying to lose, but in practice was otherwise was just a guy. Didn’t cost Dallas much either way, better deal than Lance
yes but drafting a guy offers so much more upside and possibility's.
This guy who may be useless, will take up a roster spot. and if Grier is better, then this guy
is a waste of time and roster spot.

edit, I see now it was a pick swap, which makes it better , and he wanted out of NE and he requested
a trade.
I still would rather draft a guy who could be a starter in 2 years.

Why was NE determined to get rid of him even for peanuts ??
Why no other team wanted him enough to outbid cap boy, the cheapest guy in the NFL? LOL

I was hoping for a guy like jaxon dart or ewers , they at least have ability to rise above bkup.

I am thinking now dallas wont draft anyone that I would have, so just lost excitement for the draft too.

I thought when the press mentioned a "major" trade that meant some kinda proven upgrade over Cooper Rush at backup QB.

This ain't that.
This is treading water Jones style once again.
And when SleepNumber goes down everybody will be asking why the Joneses couldn't have at least made Rush an honest offer cuz Grier and/or Milton wont be able to get the job done, lol.

Just watch.

Folks clamoring for a younger development QB got what they wanted.

I’m much happier trading a 5th round pick (and getting a 7th rounder in return) for Milton than I would have ever been spending a 3rd rounder on Ewers.
Thing is, Ewers is a baller. Some of you just can't see it because of Manning.
