TRADED Cowboys trade for Joe Milton

BAZOOKA JOE. One of the best nicknames in football tbh. This guy has the strongest arm in the league. Not particularly accurate, but a cannon for an arm nonetheless.

I’m really excited about this trade. I bash Jerry a lot but he won this trade. This was a good move by our FO. The money and the timing is perfect. He can sit the bench and learn to be a pro and work on his game. In 3 years we’ll know a lot about Dak and his ability to keep playing, that’ll be Dak’s 12th or 13th season, and in 3 years we’ll know if we have something with Milton. If we don’t then little investment will mean little pain and we can draft someone else. If Dak is done in 3 years and Milton is something to work with we just transition and go. Perfect timing, little risk and high reward. Great trade! I don’t praise Jerry often but he won this one. You got to give his due when he gets it right.

Questionable arm is not an issue… he has a cannon arm

I’m being too lazy to go find his post but apparently he is on a bender again. “Questionable size and arm” *** do these guys do in there spare time, snort dumb pills? He probably has the strongest arm in the NFL. And I think he’s 6’5”-244lbs.

I haven’t read all the pages of this thread so I don’t know who the poster is that said he has a questionable arm and size. So this is not a disagreement with that poster or that person. But as far physical metrics go, Milton hits them all. He’s probably one of the biggest QBs and has a cannon. His size and arm is probably in the top 5 in the league.

The questions about Milton is:
Can he improve his accuracy
Can he read defenses
Can he pick up the offense
Can he be more accurate downfield
Can he play the QB position and not be just a great athlete.

But questions about his physical metrics, naw dude, he kills it there. Big, strong, cannon arm and he can run. The question is can he throw it and throw it accurately against defenses. Fortunately for us we have 3 full seasons to find out.

Havent seen a lot of tape on him. But my concern is that he's one of those guys that looks impressive in workouts, but cant play. His history is as follows:

Went to Michigan expecting to start, but got beaten out by another QB.

Transferred to Tennessee expecting to start, but got beaten out by another QB.

Drafted by NE as an expected future #2 QB, but got beaten out and ended up as #3 and has been moved on after only one season.

There's a concerning pattern here. And the 3 x QBs who beat him out arent exactly future HOFers.

Now sign Keenan Allen and Asante Samuel Jr
I thought about Samuel, and found out he is hurt in a really bad way. Thats why no one is knocking on his door. Plus I don't think they pick up anyone anytime soon unless its a trade. It will impact their comp picks. They then use them next season to trade for players. Its a smart system, providing you pick up good vets after the draft so you don't lose those comp picks.

Good job to the front office for giving us something to rant about with the trade for Milton. One thing that's great about Milton that I see posted a lot is that he has a great arm. I ask you this, what good is it being able to throw the ball 80 yards and throwing it really fast, but you struggle with shorter intermediate routes?

This is not a bash Milton thread, just pointing out some things that I hope our coaches, and Milton really work on this off season and in camps. Pre season will allow us to see his progress. He has a lot of athleticism, just want to see him pull it all together, we may need him during the season at some point. It remains to be seen! Please give your thoughts!

I actually love this move. Milton has a cannon for an arm and with the right coaching can actually be good.

Question is will he have the right coaching here?
I mean I think it’s a good trade by you guys. He looked really intriguing in the game he played. Not trying to over hype it but it will be interesting to see how he develops.

Milton will be lucky to develop into a solid backup. Playing quarterback in the NFL is one of the hardest things to do in the world. The kid needs reps and I am talking about real NFL game reps not preseason with insurance salesman, used car salesman, teachers, police officers, etc.

What the trade actually shows is the Cowboys finally understand that they have to have a quarterback plan beyond Dak. Instead of bringing in quarterbacks that are less athletic and have weaker arms they brought in a kid that Dak only beats out mentally. Milton is bigger, faster, and stronger. What it shows me is that in 2026 and beyond the Cowboys will be open to drafting a quarterback in the first round.

Its a low risk trade.

He's making league minimum salary. 1M. The cap hit would be low when he's cut.

A big step back from Lance, who Jerry refuses to pay.

Grier is likely QB2 going into camp. yikes.

Weaknesses

  • Disturbing lack of placement and timing as a deep-ball passer.
  • Completed just 38.6 percent of his throws beyond 10 yards (per Pro Football Focus) in 2023.
  • Struggles with anticipatory throws, running receivers into collisions.
  • Telegraphs throws between the hashes, giving safeties an easy jump on the ball.
  • Desires to throw the ball through receivers rather than deliver with touch.
  • Inconsistent tying his feet to eyes and squaring to his targets.
  • Frequently forces moving targets to break stride to try to make the catch.

Weaknesses

Pocket setup lacks quickness.
Field blinders occasionally rob him of seeing the big play.
Delivery is labored.
Lacks timing to beat NFL corners outside the numbers.
Shies away from tight-window throws.
Ball needs to come out sooner on deep-ball shots.
Confidence and consistency have been issues.

This was the scouting report on Brock Purdy who's about to be among the highest paid players in the NFL.....some things should be taken with a grain of salt.

Literally everything is wrong with that report
