Ok,

I checked out the Texans message board and our own here on the zone. I have seen 2 posts that started the rumor of Dallas trading up to draft Vince Young.

Both sources that posted the messages claim they heard about it on sports 610am in Houston and the last even called out John Mcclain as the person who said it.

SO, I e-mailed John Mcclain this morning at his houston chronicle e-mail address and asked him to clear it up for us.

To my pleasent surprise he WROTE ME BACK TODAY!!! I was shocked that he took the time on Superbowl SUnday to write me back.

Anyway, I have copied our E-mails below so you can see for yourself that is INDEED a FALSE RUMOR...

Right from the REAL source!!

John,

I am writing because there is a growing number of message board postings on the Texans and Cowboys web-sites saying that you announced on sports radio 610 that Jerry Jones is trying to make a deal to move up to the second pick in the draft to take Vince Young.

I wanted to come straight to the source and ask you if that is true or
if fans are making up rumors.

Thanks John!!!

I never said Jerry was doing that. I said what would be worse than Bud
Adams getting Vince -- Jerry Jones and the Cowboys getting him.

.......................................................................................................

Now we can end this crazy talk and move on to how we are REALLY going to draft at #18!!!

Too bad its just a rumor. We need to get out quarterback of the future now. Young and Leinhart are both the real deal.

Obviously McClain thinks a hell of alot of Vince Young and would HATE to see him end up in Dallas or Tennessee. High praise coming from McClain for Vince.
Thanks for clearing this up.

Newsflash....Houston does not own the #2 pick in the 2006 NFL Draft. Therefore Dallas was never rumored to be trading up with Houston to #2. It was supposedly New Orleans.

There's been no trade talks for that pick. Book it. Just a Horns and Cowboys fan who has a dream of Vince Young in Dallas.

Not going to happen.

I'm the one who posted it from the Texans MB. It never said we was trading up to get Vince. That was a Texan fan asking which would be worst. Vince to the Cowboys or Titians. I was trying to see if anyone had heard it anywhere else.

Oh well, it isnt true anyways. Did not mean to cause a problem.

Awhile back there was a rumor saying that Leinhart could have a Roger's like drop in the draft. If he drops out of the top 10, what would we have to give up to get him? I don't think he will drop, but if he does than maybe we can work something out.

Even though I SERIOUSLY doubt Jerry and Bill would be willing to make the deal it would take to move up from #18 than #2...

your email really didnt answer the real question, if Jerry is tryin to move up to the #2 spot. It just says that Mr McLain never said they tryin to get it done. How would he know if Jerry is trying to construct a trade anyways?

Oh wait a minute...does he have anything to do with the Saints front office? I honestly do not pay attention to other teams since they are not America's Team.

No, John McLain has nothing to do with the Saints. He is the Houston beat writer and a voter on the Hall of Fame committee for that city. A known Cowboys hater.

But cha'never know. Jerry might have read this same FALSE rumor and went, hmmmm...

Gotta admit it might be intriguing to NO. They're in a position to take one top notch player or stock pile draft picks. Remember who his mentor for the last 3 years has been, Mr. Draftpick Stocker, himself.

We tend to think we're more then just one player away from a Super Bowl. Well, NO, is an ARMY away. Those added draft picks over Sean's first couple of years could be a steal for that team. Like I said, one player is not going to change that team this year, but a handful could.

There could be value for both teams to make a trade like this or there may not be. It all depends on what line of thinking is going on in these three men's minds at the moment. One thing is for sure, we have an "in" to that #2 pick more so then most, I would believe. I'd be willing to bet the thought crossed Jerry's mind the second Sean took the job in NO. How couldn't it, he's an elite businessman and there are so many tempting angles to a trade like this, not to mention the "in" we have. He's slipping if he didn't atleast think of it once.

But thanks for clearing that rumor up.

Actually Hos he's not. A lot of Texans fans think hes a Titian/Cowboy homer and some Cowboy fans here in Houston think he is a Cowboy hater.

The thing with McLain is he pulls no punches. He shoots right down the middle and sometimes he gets to people. I for one have grown to like him. Texan fans dont like him because he speaks his mind and it goes against the Texans. They rather have someone praise them or at least agree with them.

He's one of the voters who campaign for Wright to get into the Hall. He's been doing it for a while. He's also one of the few writers who admits there is a Cowboy bias in the Hall.

That would be interesting.

I wouldn't be for a trade all the way up to #2 for Leinhart, but anything after 10 I would consider in a heartbeat.

Yeah, I agree. I have heard McClain on few occasions on Randy Galloway Show here in Dallas, and he never seemed like Cowboys hater at all. Infact he is one of those who strongly believes there is Cowboys Bias in HOF voting process.

Heck he was strongly for Michael Irvin. He said this year he probably wouldn't vote for Irvin in Final 6 since he thought he had to make sure Wright got in and aint no way the committee will let three boys at the same time. Since he thought Troy was automatic and it had to be a choice between Wright and Irvin.

And he thinks Irvin will get in, probably next year.

He's a well respected writer. He does a lot of interviews on local sports radio stations. Not that this matters but he was in the Longest Yard. He was in the booth with King and others.
