Don't know about the home run for sure yet, but this draft class is definitely no bust. Mazi is going to be a beast and Overshown will be a heat seeking missile. That's close to home run territory for the defense.
Brooks is looking particularly promising, and I think Luepke just might prove to be a worthy short yardage asset if not more.
And contrary to some of his critic's opinions, it appears that Schoonmaker actually has 2 legs, not just 1, and they both work!
He was actually seen catching and running with the ball.
I think Schoonmaker is gonna be a lot better than his critics have predicted. Go get 'em Schoon!
Nobody is saying bust. Just as home run is way too early, so is saying bust. We haven’t even played a snap of preseason football

The key word here is “early”. I like this class too and remain positive for its future. But we are fans. Not exactly objective, but that’s ok because it’s just what we fans do.

I can’t objectively declare a draft class a success until at the very least, we’ve seen those players against top shelf competition in a handful of real NFL games.

Ferguson was better than schultz last year
Dude showed numerous times he is a natural playmaker. Can't teach that, either have it or you don't. Schultz was the slow and steady, going to win the race.

Not saying Ferguson will be as good as him, but that's my memory of Witten too in his first year. Showing us glimpses of being a future playmaker and then soon becoming the man.

Considering Mazi is nursing tendinitis in his knee and Schon is just coming off NFI, Fehoko has shown nothing, Richards hasn't been mentioned so far this draft has been a big nothing. Doesn't mean it cannot look better when Maz and Schoon get some playing time but right now this draft rating is undetermined.

Wait and see every year for the draft until gametime. I think the only thing you get out of TC with your rookie draft and UDFA are the extremes. The guys who are going to bust or excel. A first rounder who is highly disappointing, a late rounder who is taking camp by storm. Everyone else... jury is still out.

The rub of going for it, is this draft class will likely have a lot fewer snaps and less starts than prior ones.
Thats not a bad thing as these guys can come along more slowly and grow into the season as opposed to hitting a wall late.

R1/R2 guys both having injury concerns is scary but forcing a kibosh on their early workload can be a good thing.
The team has overloaded and overworked other rookies in the recent past.

Geez, with articles like this, you just know it's not going to end well. Putting the cart way out in front of the horse.

Schultz and Ferguson were both 4th round picks, #134 and #129 respectively. Ferguson started 8 games as a rookie and did well. I expected him to be the TE1 on opening day this year, regardless of who the Cowboys drafted, and am very comfortable with him taking that role. My opinion is that Ferguson can match or exceed what Schultz gave to the Cowboys, and they obviously planned to have him fill that role when they drafted him a year ago, after using the franchise tag on Schultz - who is a very average NFL TE. Ferguson may or may not be an elite prospect, but I'm almost positive he can match the production of Schultz, and Hendershot can be a good receiving option. Ferguson can be "average", like Schultz, which is good enough for the Cowboys' needs.

What remains to be seen is if Schoonmaker will become a substantial upgrade to both Ferguson and Schultz. He's bigger and faster than both of them, and based on his use at Michigan, may also be a better blocker. Travis Kelce identified Ferguson as a potential up and coming star TE. If Schoonmaker is even better, that can only be good for the Cowboys. We'll see. Bottom line is that I'm not too concerned about the TE position on the team.

What is more interesting to me is the battle for TE3, TE4, etc. Hendershot is limited, and both Sean McKeon and John Stephens may be worthy of being on an NFL roster. And that is before we look at Fant, another promising UDFA. All in all, it's a good group of players, which has a chance to be a real net positive for the team.

I agree and I didn't mean it like an accusation. I'm just voicing some honest, positive thoughts about our draft this year. I'm impressed with this draft. I'd still like to see us address the OL, but if Schoonmaker stays healthy, his blocking ability may help that issue some, and hopefully we don't lose Martin.

Is Mazi Smith working mostly against other rookies or is he getting some work against veterans?
They can't afford him to be just a body. He needs to be at least a Jethro Pugh.
