NFL.com assigns grades to every prospect. This year, the top graded player is Saquon Barkley with a grade of 7.45. Only 5 players have grades above 7.00.

22 players had grades between 6.00 and 6.99 The Website ranked 520 players, with the lowest grade being 4.80

Here are how the Cowboys picks compare to their ranking on the NFL.com website Prospect list:

  • #19 LB Leighton Vander Esch – NFL.com rank #13, Grade = 6.25
  • #50 OL Connor Williams – NFL.com rank #40, Grade = 5.87
  • #81 WR Michael Gallup – NFL.com rank #79, Grade = 5.72
  • #116 DE Dorance Armstrong – NFL.com rank #137, Grade = 5.55
  • #137 TE Dalton Schultz – NFL.com rank #85, Grade =5.70
  • #171 QB Mike White - NFL.com rank #109, Grade 5.60
  • #192 Traded to Rams for RB Tavon Austin, 2013 8th overall pick
  • #193 OLB Chris Covington - NFL.com rank #396 , Grade = 4.97
  • #208
  • #236
Cowboys used pick #173 to get both a Fullback and backup Running Back. Pretty good use of a 5th round pick, in my humble opinion.

Armstrong and Covington were the only picks I thought we could have waited later on to pick. I'll admit I don't know much about either player, but grades from every major draft site had better value on others. I really wanted Hurst, Settle, or White. Excellent talents that had the chance to be big contributors right away.

Im having trouble figuring out where he fits with Charlton, Kon Ealy and possibly Gregory back. Needed a DT and safety much more and we had some quality options available.

I liked the trades they made this year. We came out ahead.
And don’t forget last year, we gave up this years 5th to the Jets for their 6th last year and got Woods.

Is anyone else a little upset the Cowboys have not focused more on defense?
By solidifying the OL, having Zeke for 16 games, and adding a thumper in Scarbrough we will be using the 2014/2016 keep the D off the field approach, but as we sit right now we are much better on the DL than either of those years, and we have more talent at LB and in the secondary too.

Ealy is far from guaranteed a roster spot. The team is right to draft without considering Gregory a part of this team.

Prior to the draft, Taco and Charles Tapper are our only defensive ends on our roster after this season. Technically Crawford is on contract but his contract is set up where this will be his contract year as welL.

You don’t draft just for one season. Our DE position very well could be a disaster a year from now.
