Cowboys/Vikings Thoughts

This season is just almost half over, and this team only has one loss. I'll take it. I don't think the Cowboys played great today, but they got the job done and that's all that matters.

Anyone else raise an eyebrow or two lately at some of the playcalling? I know the team seems to be a better throwing team than running team, but it feels like this whole season has been put on Romo. Don't get me wrong, I think Tony is one of the best in the business, but I'd feel a little better if the team was just a little more balanced.

This defense is doing a pretty nice job too. Everyone gets up in arms when an offense has a good game against them, but it seems a little unfair to me. Feels like they get no credit when they shut a team down, but they get all the blame when a team does something good. They absolutely locked the Vikings down. Before anyone starts talking about how poor the Vikings offense is, remember that this team put 30+ on the Bears last week. I know the Bears aren't what they were, but still...

Romo played a very good game. The passing game seemed to be dialed down just a little bit, but I think it was probably due more to coverages the Vikings threw out there. I suspect you will continue to see teams force Romo and Garrett to be patient and methodically drive the ball down field. Romo did. He took what was there and had a great completion percentage. Actually, the offense was able to move the ball very well. They need to hold on to the ball better though. Other than that, I didn't think the offense had a problem. I just think fans better prepare themselves for more teams doing that same sort of thing. It's what I would do...

Julius had a few nice runs, but there's really no doubt about who the best back on the team is. Barber did have a bad play where he went backwards and lost a first down after he already had it. He needs to watch that. It almost cost the team points last week. Feels like he always makes up for it though. He was nasty in the fourth quarter.

TO had a very good game. He made some tough catches, and he always impacts a defense. I'm glad we won't have to read articles for the next two weeks about how quiet he's been.

Witten is a stud. The guy just gets open and moves the chains.

I like Deon Anderson in the passing game. I miss Hoyte in the running game.

I thought Colombo struggled today, and I don't like seeing Flo stay down on the field for any period of time. The O-Line had their hands full against those tackles, but the ends seemed to cause some trouble.

I know the Vikings didn't have the ball a ton, but doesn't it seem like Peterson should be given even more opportunities? That guy is a beast. The Cowboys did a good job against him, and he still looked like a huge threat every time he was in the game. The guy is special. Brad Childress isn't. Tavaris Jackson? Yuck.

Jay Ratliff played well. The Vikings were able to run the ball at times, but Ratliff was also able to pressure the QB and he must have been doing something right to keep the Vikings from running all over the team.

Hatcher's forced fumble on AD was impressive. He's starting to look healthier. Looks like he wants more playing time too.

Bradie James really seems to be playing well.

The corners weren't exactly going against an elite receiving unit, but you can only play who is on the schedule. Good job from those guys. Reeves had a few nice plays. He probably needed to bounce back a little bit after last week.

I thought Roy played well. My wife had a funny moment though during the game. When Roy undercut a throw intended for Bobby Wade, he deflected a pass and forced the incompletion. My wife turned to me and said, "I'll be you money someone on the Cowboys board complains about how close Roy was to letting Wade get a big play instead of talking about how close he was to making a huge play for the Cowboys." I'm betting she's right...

Ken Hamlin hasn't looked as good to me lately. I've seen some strange angles and some missed tackles. That AD touchdown looked like his work to me.

Nick Folk can miss; who knew? Of course, he came back and drilled the next one from 47 after missing from 50. I liked seeing him bounce back so quickly.

Chris Canty gets huge props from me for laying out to block that field goal. Great job by Watkins to scoop it up and take it to the house too. That was the play of the game.

Minneapolis radio kept hammering this point in the post-game analysis.

You forgot the three most important guys today.

The number 1 guy, Matt Mcbriar. He had more to do with this win than anyone, he was simply terrific today.

number 2. Pat watkins. He was in almost every special teams tackle and then he returned the block.

number 3. Sam hurd was incredible on special teams.

oh and marcus spears did a hell of a job making a mess up front.

to be fair though, if that throw was not god awful its a completion for a big play and maybe a touchdown.

but it wasnt and roy made a nice play on the ball.

in the coming weeks, that throw will be better from mcnabb, manning, and favre so he needs to be in better position.

the vikes pass O is god awful and that is the reason we could just settle down and play a bit more conservative and never worry about losing.

The Offense is a bot overconfident, players need to learn to protect the ball.

And though Jones has been good the past 2 games, this is one where barber should have been the focal point.

I know everyone is wondering why AD didn't get the ball more, but the running was very inconsistent past that first drive. It seemed like it was 1 yard, then another yard, then try and convert on 3rd down with Jackson, and then punt.

Then there was a drive or two in there that AD would rip off a couple of 10 yard runs in a row and then it was back to 1 yard runs again. Stats might prove me wrong, but I think our defense had more to do with AD not getting the ball more than their playcalling.

the vikings said that we blitz alot and peterson is struggling in pass protection and understanding his reads. so they wanted Taylor in the game more on 3rd down.

My question is what does it matter when you throw the ball 13 times?
