Umm, or you don't believe your defense can get a stop, and trust your offense, thus, you go for it and keep your defense off the field. That's the whole point of going for it, keeping your offense on the field.

You go for it to sustain a drive. The probability isn't in your favor on 4 th downs. If you have a shacky defense it is not wise to risk giving your opponent good field.
