  • The 49ers:
    • Signed DT Javon Hargrave ($84M contract).
    • Lost OT Mike McGlinchey (87.5M contract with Denver).
      • Interesting because DL and defense overall was a strong area for the 49ers in 2022.
      • I would have guessed that they would keep their starting OT over adding an outside DL.
    • Lost QB Jimmy Garoppolo (72.75M contract with Raiders)

  • Cowboys:
    • Keeping D. Wilson
    • Keeping Pollard
    • Keeping Steele or getting a 2nd round pick.
    • Tyler Smith expected to replace McGovern at LG with Tyron at LT and Steele at RT. Maybe Peters as backup.
    • Maybe keeping Fowler.
    • LVE ?
    • Schultz - Likely gone.
Actually hearing that Tyler is stating at LT and Tyron moving to swing. So they are looking for a LG.

Tyler Smith is not going to Guard. He is our LT for the next 10+ years.
Until Tyron retires or is injured again, Tyler will play guard. That was the plan this year until Tyron's injury. Tyler is the left tackle heir apparent.

Their defense got better, but little else...Brock Purdy will not be a star in this league!
Their defense got a lot better. That front 7 should be one of the best in the league if they don’t get injured. Offensively they have Debo, McAffrey, and their TE. All the Qb has to do is not lose the game whoever that will be. Teams will study tape on Purdy and find his tendencies. I still think we can beat them.

I am happy the Cowboys are keeping their defense relatively intact. But I won't be happy if they do not sign a decent NT like Hankins or Tomlinson. The thought of starting Bohanna in that role scares me.

We should have signed Javon Hargrave or gone after Jaylon Ramsey. Hardgrave would have shored up our run defense. So the 9ers are having a better offseason than us.
Hargrave is among the worst run defenders in the NFL.
He is however a very plus pass rusher which is why he got paid.

He had never topped 7.5 sacks prior tp last year and is now vastly overpaid.

I am glad someone got him out of Philly but that is a terrible contract.

So same as last year for them.
They were already elite in that front 7.

They are riding the health of Deebo and McCaffrey.
Lose either and they take a big step back on offense.

Then Tyron got hurt and Tyler excelled.

Exactly. If one of them or both go down with injuries and both have histories it could be a long season

He did, but when Tyron is healthy, he also excels. Meanwhile, left guard has not been a strength the last few years, although McGovern played decently. Tyler can shore up that position until Tyron retires.

Obviously, with Tyron's injury troubles, it is more likely that Tyler will end up back at LT at some point, but a potential starting five of Tyron, Tyler, Biadasz, Martin, Steele is our best lineup, unless you think Farniok or some non-first-round rookie gives us a better one. (I sincerely doubt we'll spend a first-round pick on OL after doing that last year. There's no pattern evidence for that.)

They just drafted back to back first round offensive linemen in 13/14. Fredrick and Martin.

I very well could see them draft a Guard at 26.

I don't see Steele coming back by week one. I imagine he starts the season on the PUP or IR.

Tyler, Rookie, Biadasz, Martin, Tyron is my guess.

They expect Steele back by the start of camp, but they've been known to overestimate before. In that case, your lineup may be close, but it might be Farniok at guard. Maybe they do go OL in the first again, but I don't see it if they keep Tyron. Eventually, Steele will be back, so it's an overinvestment of resources in the line when he returns as the starter. We needed a starting guard (because McGovern didn't play well when given the opportunity in 2021) and eventually replacement for Tyron, so we drafted Tyler in the first round. At most this year, we need a stand-in while Steele is out. The caveat is that Tyron isn't likely to stay healthy so we know that eventually we will have to kick Tyler back out to tackle and insert a guard. That's the only reason I could see us going OL in the first, but I just don't think that fits the Joneses MO. If they keep Tyron, it's because they expect him to start.
