I’ll catch hell for this, but I think it was excellent coaching. Chargers were getting in our backfield with 4 guys and playing nickel all day. Cooper was bracketed all game, just like the threaded pass that barely got through. Rushing for over 200 helped the offense, the playaction, and a porous, short handed defense.
At the end, once we were in FG range, we were smart. 55 yards or 45 or 35….makes no difference with Zeurline. He kicks it straight or doesn’t. We avoided any chance of sack, penalty, turnover and tried to pull them offsides for an extra 5 yards. We were clearly going to kick it from there. That is playing for the win against a good defense on the road. I don’t believe for a second that was mismanagement, though you may not like it.
