Obviously a story goes with what this is all about, suggest a Google if curious.

Both franchises showing up in 1960, both in Dallas, first Chief draft pick....Don Meredith. Just adds to it all as does that trophey, see if they mention it during the TV broadcast.

Speaking of TV broadcast, I live in Cali we don't get all the Cowboy games here, so I was nervous when I checked it out , whew......1pm channel 26 Dallas vs Kansas City.....life is good.

Who out there knew about this, yeah, me either.

The reason the AFL made it was no defenses and a lot of speedy players from places like North Texas State, Texas A&I, Blufton, Texas Southern, Prairie View, Maryland Eastern Shore....

Scoring, offense sells.

This story has been out there for awhile. Doesn't quite have the same meaning now that the elder owner for the Chiefs passed away. But it's a good little story for those that are not familiar.

As a kid, I was a AFL fan first. Like you say more offense, more passing,
and I think they made "the bomb" famous.
San Diego with John Hadl ?, Oakland Daryl Lamonica, were my fav teams. I liked the rams when Roman Gabriel was QB too.
Also the jets with joe namath.
Oakland had a center with the # 00 lol I think he was the only player ever with that #?

And I think they had decent defenses, they just had good qb's who could throw deep, and some good maybe speedy receivers. The jets had Maynard for deep passes, I cant remember the oakland or SD guys but they had 1 each that caught a lot of deep passes, or bombs lol.
And from what I remember, they caught the ball in stride, which was how good those qb's could throw the bomb.

Lamar Hunt lived near Jerry’s house on Preston Road in Dallas. I think just across the road.
Hence, the Preston Trophy.

Yeah, Jerry discussed it in his weekly interview on the 105.3 the FAN.. it was an entertaining story.

Darly "The Mad Bomber" Lamonica had Texas Southern 9.4 sprinter Warren Wells going long and scoring, the most potent duo in all of football.

Jim Otto the double 0 but he wasn't alone, Ken Burrough another 9.4 sprinter out of Texas Southern also double 0

Roman Gabriel was like 6-5 220 and had the strongest arm in football.

Mack "Truck" Lee Hill. a free agent out of Southern U had to be seen to be beleived, he ran as if somebody had something about his mama, angry. He averaged over 5 yards a carry between the tackles a bonafide monster. In his second season he banged up a knee, died on the operating table. What a sad story and what a shame.

He is on that Chiefs ring of honor he made that kind of an impact

I just heard Jerry talk about it on Cowboys Special. He said Lamar had the trophy, in which Jerry thought looked like a bird house. KC had won, so he had the trophy. Jerry said, “Lamar can I get the trophy for the afternoon to show some of my friends? Lamar said, tell you what I will put it in the front window and y’all can drive by to take a look at it!”

it was hilarious

Didn't know this thing existed before Joe Buck mentioned this earlier.

Raiders - Warren Wells; Chargers- Lance Alworth.

Dan Pastorini was his QB most of his career, Burroughs a classic burner.

Just a long time track/football geek, do know that connection.

The 60's were great, no worries about keeping it safe, this is football not suppose to be safe, think boxing. No instant replay so no long gaps in the action. And with less teams each team had more great players. Think of a 14 team league NFL, and an 8 team AFL.

NFL

west

Niners
Rams
Lions
Bears
Packers
Baltimore Colts
Vikes

East

Browns
Steelers
Eagles
St.Louis Cards
Cowboys
Washington
Giants

My take.......

We needed Coop and our pass rushers, just like the Chiefs needed Tyreek and their pass rushers, That is all there is to this,

No we can't go on the road and beat good teams without our best WR and pass rush. Who can?

That's it nothing more to say, ah.....hell of a party, still a bit sick at my stomach, mixed drinks do me in.

Moving on.

GO COWBOYS!

And,,,,,,GO GIANTS and thank you Vikings,
