The twist meant he no longer had to reach back, and the ball hit him in the stomach. You have it the wrong way round, the catch is made AFTER the twist, if he reached back TO twist that doesn't mean he reached back TO catch.

You might want to read up on your physics

I didn't say he reached back to twist. He had to twist/reach back to have a chance to catch the ball. You seem to think these are separate things. They are not.
