At Michigan he played in a read and react position so he waited for the OL to make their choice and reacted accordingly.

He’s being coached to do a completely different style here and get off the ball much quicker. Thus it’s going to be a learning process for him to get a whole new way of playing down.

Give him some time, but eventually he’ll be a lot faster off the ball once the muscle memory kicks in.

There isn’t a system in existence that tells defensive lineman to be slow off the snap. That’s a cop out. Read and react DL assignments never mean getting a slow jump. They mean getting hands on then shedding, shooting based on the read.
