This goes hand and hand with the Jags trade thread but since it is slow I thought I'd just make another thread too.

The Cowboys reportedly had Mark Ingram in their sights had they successfully traded down with the Jaguars in the draft.

Due to their high regard for Tyron Smith, Dallas reportedly rejected Jacksonville's offer to move to the No. 9 spot. Had they made the deal, the Cowboys would have used the extra second-rounder to move back into the first for a shot at Ingram. The front office placed more of an emphasis than expected on upgrading the backfield this season. Despite Jason Garrett's comments to the contrary, it's clear that Felix Jones is best utilized as a situational back.

From a Theebs draft room pic I've seen, we had Ingram extremely high. I mean, really high. So I don't doubt this at all.

This and the fact that we also liked Leshoure tells me that this "Garrett wanted Murray because he's perfect for his master plan to run screens and draws" is baloney. It looks like we just wanted the best back, no matter what style he was, and we'd then fit plays to him (which is the proper thing to do).

Agree. Additionally I think this definitely shows, if true, that they don't look at Felix as the fulltime guy. Choice either. I always liked Choice and how he ran. Makes me wonder more and more about his habits and what they see in practice. I know there are conflicting reports that maybe he isn't a Garrett fave.

so glad we didnt get him, he's just gonna be a blah nfl player. Emmitt he aint. Murray will be far far better for this team

Thats a bold prediction especially when you consider the team he went to.

Based on all the commotion about the Murray pick in round 3, could you imagine how this board would have blown up if the Cowboys had taken a RB in the first round? Dallas seemed determined to take a RB early in this draft. I'm just glad they waited until the 3rd round to scratch that itch instead of taking one in the first two rounds.

I could see him being rookie of the year. Nobody is going to stack the box on him and he's gonna get a good number of looks.

This is just my own basic assumption but there is something about Ingram that makes me think he is going to be banged up alot in the NFL. The guy won the Heisman and then was ok his senior year. He was banged up. I just think with his style he may have stints where he is out.

The way this team has gone about the RB position for a few seasons now is a mystery.

I honestly can't understand the thought process.

I think the Murray pick baffled a good number of people for a number of reasons.

Primarily, nobody knew where he would fit in. I don't know if anyone knows yet where he fits in. People say there is a need a RB because Barber & Choice will be out but I call BS on that because they don't have to cut Choice. If they don't give up on Choice, the need isn't as great. You knock out 2/3rds of any position and you'll have a need. Barber must go. I love the guy but he can't get it done anymore. Choice on the other hand has shown some ability when given a chance. Yes, I've heard how poor his average is when given 3-4 carries a game, I'm not interested in that. I think Choice is a guy who needs to get into rhythm and settle into a game. When he's been given a solid chance to get the ball, he's done good things. And I am especially not interested in hearing about his 3-4 carries per game average when the majority of those carries are form that worthless formation.

You keep Choice and you don't really have a need to fill. You can find a suitable role player. But if you listened to Goose on draft day, Murray only makes sense if he's starting. And if he is starting, what happens to Felix? Additionally, this guy sounds a lot like Felix.

I really don't know what to make of this pick. I didn't when they called his name and I don't now. It seems like they want more than a role player but not a true starter. It's hard to get a read on this team at the RB position. They play guys who are essentially wasting carries and sit guys who could provide at the very minimum what the wasted carry back is giving them.

I didnt' like the RB pick but if the team was dead set on a RB I may have opted for a trade up to secure a better back. If you're forcing a RB because you feel you need a starter, get me the best option that is reasonably possible.

I was thinking the same thing and I'm not even a huge Ingram fan.

He just went somewhere where IF he gets the carries (I think Pierre Thomas is pretty good) he could get 1300-1400 yards on the ground and Offensive ROY.

Why do you think every player that doesn't play for the Cowboys has to suck?

What's wrong with having two dynamic RBs. They appear to be interchangeable which is likely the point of his being drafted. Murray will have to prove himself obviously but he appears to be capable of being a playmaker and a RB that has all around skills.

It didn't matter whether the Cowboys traded with Jacksonville, they wouldn't have gotten Ingram. The Saints gave up a #2 and next year's #1. That's more ammunition than 2 #2s.

New Orleans 2nd round pick was a low one at 56. Some teams just wouldn't have given up their #1 for a future one like NE and that low of a 2nd.

Three teams that picked above NE were Seattle, Kansas City, and Baltimore. There was still at least a chance that they would trade for a high pick like the Cowboys had. And going by who they picked they probably could have still gotten their guys with Baltimore being the least likely with Jimmy Smith. (who could have because of his off field problems) Seattle reached for James Carpenter and KC did the same with WR Baldwin. Both should have been at 40 imo. So there was at least a shot at making that deal and I still don't think there was any intention of giving two 2nds. That would have been way too much.

For example the Cowboys only gave up 36 and a 5th round pick to move up to 26 a few years ago to draft Anthony Spencer.
