Eight teams were interested in Cromartie

Posted by Mike Florio on March 5, 2010 10:24 AM ET

Maybe Jets fans shouldn't be concerned about the arrival of cornerback Antonio Cromartie, after all.

A league source tells us that eight teams were interested in the former first-round pick.

One of the teams was the Cowboys, whose head coach was the defensive coordinator in San Diego when Cromartie had the best year of his career.

Cromartie has claimed that the switch from man coverage to zone after Wade Phillips and then Ted Cottrell left caused the dip in Cromartie's play, and that he'll thrive in a 3-4 scheme premised on man-to-man coverage.

Whether that also prompts him to try to tackle a running back in a playoff game remains to be seen.

i think the Cowboys interest was likely the (bogus) Choice for Cromartie rumors, imo.

3 years ago Jerry pulls the trigger. After the 08 season he's become more conservative.

Same here. I think Florio is full of it again.

Dallas might have been interested if the asking price was low. It's possible they had some small discussions about it simply because he'd played for Wade before.

I don't find that particulary hard to believe but I doubt there was ever any really serious interest in it.

I think Mr. Florio wants to continue to maintain there was trade talk with San Diego. He feels like he saves face.

No interest.

That was my thinking also. Living of those old unfounded MBIII trade rumors.

If Jerry wanted him he would be a Cowboy. That's how it works in Big D.

Wasn't Cromartie's best year in 07? The same year we went 13-3 under Wade

We can never be sure unless we are on the inside, but i would be shocked if Dallas wanted any part of Cromartie.

My BS radar is activated.
