4. Anthony Hitchens
Position: LB

Years Pro: 1

Hitchens was taken in the fourth round as an insurance policy for starter Sean Lee. He turned out to be much more. Hitchens became the first Cowboys rookie since Roy Williams in 2002 to finish the season with at least 100 tackles. He started at all three linebacker spots over the course of the season and finished with 11 starts during the regular season. His first start came in Week Three against St. Louis and he finished with 18 tackles, including a key stop on fourth-and-one in the team’s comeback win. He excelled at weak side linebacker once Justin Durant went down with injury and constantly put himself around the ball to make plays.

Pretty hard to argue that one. Wonder who the top 3 could be with Hitchens at #4.

Murray will be on that list (probably #1). I don't think even the most ardent Murray fan saw that level of production coming this past season.

As odd as it may sound, to some, I wouldn't be surprised if Romo topped the list, TBH. With the back issues to begin the season (combined with the low expectations on defense) many had this team tagged to be one of the worst in the league and already had a couple of nails in Romo's proverbial coffin. Instead he had the most efficient year of his career and, if the voters would have waited until December to actually make up their minds, was a legitimate candidate for league MVP.

What about Martin. Yes he was a 1st rd pick with high expectations but I don't think anyone expected him to be named 1st team All-Pro his rookie year.
